The only way to save American Democracy and defend the Constitution was by destroying both things and installing Trump as our God-King for Life

I receive a slight amount of solace in the hope that many members of congress lay awake at night wondering how much of their involvement is being discovered.

If you support them, you support armed insurrection.
Let's see if there are balls among law enforcement, or if they cower and sweat.

Yeah.  Any day now.

So, it takes 2/3rds of Congress to expel a congresscritter (or 3/5ths, or ...well, a larger # than we have Democrats in Congress, anyway).  What happens if one of these guys gets thrown in the pokey?  Can they still discharge their duties?

/guess I should go read the Constitution or something

Yeah, fark trying to expel, that's a non-starter. Put them in the clink and fine them. Congrats, Republican voters, you elected a felon and will probably do so again and again. The Best People.

Yeah, never going to get a 2/3 vote in this House, unless the accused are not allowed to vote, and then it depends how many of them there are...

As for serving from jail, it appears they can:

In case someone wants to put the 1/6 commission here.

They're trying to finish the investigation before the mid-terms.

250 people have given depositions.

There's not a chance in hell.  That's why Republicans are trying so desperately to delay this as long as they can.  Incumbent presidents almost always lose seats in the mid-terms and the margin is razor thin now, so it wouldn't take many seat to swing it

2021-12-01 8:18:45 AM
I fully expect any of the members that do get subpoenaed to argue their own body of Congress lacks the legal authority to question its own members.

I think that technically the seat remains occupied though actually doing the voting and getting re-elected parts could be tricky.

Don't tell that to Fark Democrats (TM). They're sure the Dems will keep the House and gain seats in the Senate.

Maybe the committee should start holding some public hearings to start getting the public ready to accept what they're doing, and also restore confidence with people who want justice done and don't see any sign of that ever happening.

C'mon now. The Republicans will still have a Jan 6th commission. If for no other reason than to weed out and prosecute all those antifa and BLM people that actually stormed the capitol that day, just to reinstate Donald Trump in an elaborate plot to make Donald Trump look bad.

To be fair, reinstating TFG to make TFG look bad is sound logic.

Watching these proceedings creep along at this Stop & Start snail's pace is like trying to motivate a roomful of lazy stoners to do something that's excruciatingly important, but that none of them wants to do. It's f*cking maddening.

so, if say, a Senator was found in contempt and jailed for a year; does that seat get filled with a replacement, or is it vacant for the term of confinement?

This seems like a good idea. Make sure the public is aware that there is some there there.
If the GQP takes the house they will have to work a lot harder to sweep it under the carpet.

They'll create a bunch of comitees.  As for January 6, they'll investigatevwhy Pelosibdidn't secure the capitol.  No mention will be made of McConnell who was then Senate majority leader.

In before the gangbang of Eeyore images starts... This is all I'm asking for, too.

I don't need to see Boebert & Taylor Greene dragged from their homes and beaten (as nice as that would be). Just give me a goddamn sign that my federal government is working on this.

There are no signs that anything will happen. We saw more signs that something might happen during the Mueller investigation and, well, nothing farking happened there.

Until there are signs of things happening - hell, even signs of things actively happening - vague signs that something at some point may or may not happen are not signs that something is going to happen.

The public hearing will have more impact when they know what questions to ask and what the true answers are.  Best to know everything before holding a pageant that will make them look truly horrible.
