I wonder if we can get Microsoft and Brexit in the same thread for some double fanboi action.

There's a fix for this here

I have been seeing a lot of zip ads on those freeium streaming services.

And with major OS updates MS tries to reset your default browser. They really need to get sued again by a few countries.

The problem is Microsoft want to make money without actually doing anything.  Or anything positive.  Make my computer work better, faster and less buggy and I would pay for the OS.  Instead they grind it to a halt so you have to buy a "faster" computer every few years.

How else were they going to convince the computer makes to put their OS on it?

My Commodore 64 still works mostly ok, and with the original OS!

That's why I use Firefox

And in two years, Apple will announce it to cries of joy from fanbois.

I'd always wondered how a pile of shiate could be shaped into a web browser.  Now I know.

Why would anyone use that crap. It's just Chrome, but worse.

People use the Edge browser?

if you use Safari, and have Apple Pay, when you purchase something online you are given the option to use Apple Pay.
But you do have to opt into it.

Yes. Haven't seen this finance thing, but maybe it's US only?

But they have added neat features I do use. Like the screenshot that takes an image of the whole page, not just the visible area. So a five hundred comment Fark thread can be saved as one JPG in one go. I use it when filling out contract pages for stuff so I have a record of what I filled out and what the website told me.
(It is a bit weird that you have to click Save, and then click the Downloads icon and click Save As again to save it. )

And the feature where you can tap the URL and send it to another of your machines. So if I see an interesting article while on my phone and want to read it when I get home I just tap share and choose which of my devices I want to send it to. So when I get home and open Edge I get a notification with that link.

This.

Apple is usually behind smaller companies, but is almost always years ahead of MS. Apple (2014) and Google Pay (2011) have been around for years, but aren't invasive at all. You only absolutely need to use them on the respective app stores.

/I won't touch either. The last thing I want are any of the big software giants who already have way too much power getting access to my money.

Win7 ftw..  updates turned off.  FF for the browser..  haven't had a fault for over two years.. I need my system to work.. it does.  Of course, if you are stupid and fall for phishing shait, that's on you, regardless of the OS.

Every morning when I start the day on the computer, I wait a couple of seconds and sure enough Edge pops up. I close it and continue with the Avast browser that I prefer.

On my phone, I use DuckDuck Go.

You have something in your settings that is telling Edge to open automatically.

Yep, Edge doesn't open without me asking it to.

/But every time I use Chrome I get a pop up saying "Make Chrome your default!"

I still wish I had my C-64.  I wrote so many stories and books on the thing  The problem was the damn chips were so cheap.

I used to use Firefox as my everyday browser, with Edge as the thing that opened up quick to check out a link from an email.

Recently they added tab groups, which is equivalent to Firefox's Tree tabs, but somehow works better.

Nice, I thought, but it doesn't replace NoScript. Only to find that NoScript is now available for Edge since... I don't know when.

At the moment I'm gradually moving to using Edge as my main browser, but there's still a couple of things Firefox has an advantage for and I haven't given it up yet.

Except if you use must-have features of win 10, such as handling high dpi displays, HDR, modern graphics cards and drivers, want up-to-date software, and want to stay current on security updates. But go ahead and cling to the past if it makes you happy.
