Kinda summarizes the current state of AAA gaming that two of the largest publishers in existence have now published "remasters" of beloved older games that look worse and run objectively less well (and with fewer features) on modern hardware than just directly running the old version of the game on that hardware, in the last year alone.

// I guess Blizzard at least has the excuse that they were busy with all the raping.

Sad part is this is nothing new.  Companies have been outsourcing this kind of work for years with similar results.  Just look at the Silent Hill remasters.  The lost code is on Konami, but the rest?  Who the hell looked at that and said "Perfect, ship it."?

They knew they'd make money.

Just look at this Kotaku article, which is basically a blow job for Rockstar.  "It's okay, hey, they're fixing it and everything will be all right!"

No, it's not all right.  Folks need to stop giving these companies their money.  That's it.

Only 100 bugs? Cyberpunk 2077 patches many times over since it's release, and it's still buggy.

Gaming today is a fool's errand. Never had this shiat before you needed an internet connection to play damn console video game.

Until they "patch in" the full original soundtracks the "definitive edition" will never be more than a pathetic, pale imitation.

The audio is so much more important than the graphics; I'm perfectly happy playing my original XBox versions on my 360.  And it's not like it looks bad.

Say what you will about Rockstar, but they freaking fixed everything that was wrong with the GTA Trilogy, and I am having a BLAST playing it. They really stepped up to the plate after releasing a very flawed product. The only other game I can think of that did this kind of turn around was No Mans Sky. Most developers just have bad launchesand your stuck with shiat. Rockstar fixed their shiat.

They've sold people on the idea that reviews are evil and buying something on the first day it comes out is necessary. So when they don't release any copies to reviewers because they know it's a turd, the fans don't even notice.

They cut the soundtrack down? Okay, only a soulless idiot would buy this crap. I'll stick with my memories thanks.

Marketing people who came up with an advertising campaign saying the game would be released on a certain date.

Yeah before you had an internet connection you'd just have to live with it if the released version was shiat.

And if you think that console games weren't released in a buggy state before an internet connection, let me tell you about the Atari

Unless it was so egregious that there was no other choice than for the company to release a physical "fixed" version. I remember Nintendo had to send out new discs for Metroid:Other M (yes, I know) to people who bought it due to a literal game-stopping save bug about halfway through. (Where the only resolution to the problem was "restart the game from the beginning, and don't save in that spot next time".)

Eh, outside of a few anomalies I think it looks pretty good for what it is.   Not sure I'd pay for it but I'm enjoying San Andreas on game pass.

The rain was the only thing was was a deal breaker and they fixed that.
