There will never be one cure for every type of cancer.

Fireproof: There will never be one cure for every type of cancer.

Handguns.

While it would be nice to cure existing cancers, I think the bigger reveal here is that you could eliminate metastatic cancer from your germline - there is a gene that we don't need that allows cancers to be orders of magnitude more dangerous.

If we manage to improve genetic engineering to the point it's considered safe for human offspring, would you have a child the natural way when a single generation of people using artificial means to ensure MTDH isn't passed on would eliminate 99% of the horror of cancer for all time?

I mean damn, there's a thing to blow the national defense budget on, you know?

If someone actually DID discover the "magic bullet" treatment that would kill cancer cells at any stage --- with no or minimal harm to the patient, through whatever treatment protocol you might imagine --- rest assured that corporations such as Cancer Treatment Centers of America would make sure that scientist never breathed air again, and the data confirming his/her discovery would be shredded down to the atomic level.

In the 21st century there's too much money to be made in treating.

I didn't think there could be this much stupidity outside a QAnon convention. Cancer is a very hard problem, but there are exactly zero companies working against a cure.

You are right. Further, the people who run those companies also get cancer and wouldn't want to die from it.

I made a water-carburetor. GM gave me a zillion dollars not to release it, so, enjoy your Escalade.

Apparently my cynicism didn't go over well with the home crowd. Hmmm. Maybe people are fundamentally decent after all.

It wasn't your cynicism that set us off but your obnoxious stupidity. You're a conspiracy loon, right up there with the people who think governments are run by lizard people.

Only in the US.

We've long known of a "cure" for cancer -- don't get it in the first place.  Sounds unlikely, I know, but with genetics responsible for causing only an estimated 5-10% of all cancer cases, lifestyle choices and environmental factors make up the rest, with lifestyle choices representing the vast majority of that remaining 90-95%.

Huck's cynicism/sarcasm about pharmaceutical companies aside, it's people who'd rather be treated for illnesses (including cancer) than taking the steps to prevent them.

"Oh, ah, Hi. Turns out MTDH prevents psychotic cannibalism in humans. We didn't pick that up in the mouse studies. Oops. Sorry."

But no cancer.  That means the next target would have to be prion disease.
