Park outside the house during morning rush hour, to make sure there isn't a backup of people dropping their kids at a nearby school, or using the neighborhood streets as short-cuts.

Find out when trash pickup is, and go by on that day and the next day.  You'll see whether lots of people are always putting crap out (which means they are buying and storing lots of crap), and who's the lazy ass that doesn't put their trash cans away in a timely manner.

Can I afford a mortgage? Have your down payment/closing costs lined up?  How special for you.

Will the bank value the house as being worthy of the sale price?  No.  Why even bother, because some rich asshole from NYC is just going to pay over the asking price, and attempt to become a slum lord and rent that house to me for far more than the mortgage would have been.

Stop dreaming that even after years of methodical saving, you can finally afford a home.  Just give up.

I have you Farked as "lives in a cabin in the woods," so this checks out.

I have dogs, so I make sure to walk the dogs around the neighborhood before moving.  I can see if there's sidewalks/parks/etc that are easily accessible (sometimes that green square on the map looks good, but there's no sidewalk and the road is sketchy).  I also have an excuse to snoop and scrutinize the neighbors a little.

I did not realize in my current neighborhood that there was a truck driver who dumps food scraps in an empty lot when he spends the night.  It's lovely continually fighting my dogs over old rice and chicken bones.

I think I solved most of these issues by moving to a house on a dead end country road with no neighbors.

Let me live in a house by the side of the road
Where the race of men go by-
The men who are good and the men who are bad,
As good and as bad as I.
I would not sit in the scorner's seat
Nor hurl the cynic's ban-
Let me live in a house by the side of the road
And be a friend to man.

This is a predominantly Greek neighborhood, so that's "Cretans" with an A.

Ok- I'm curious. Why is someone throwing a lot of stuff out bad? Clearly not a hoarder at least.

I do most shopping online, so my blue recycling bin is always up to full capacity.

No matter how carefully you may check out a neighborhood before moving in, there can always be some asshole with a loud motorcycle moving in afterward.

We didn't realize you have a tiny, tiny penis until you rode your bike up and down the street revving the engine as loudly as possible. We never would have known just how tiny your penis is if you hadn't done that.

I mean bulk stuff - furniture, for example.  Which means that there will be delivery trucks, shiat left in the driveway, shiat piled up in the back yard which will attract rats, etc.

As far as recycling, you might check to see how many alcohol bottles and cans are in there.  You think you're moving into a quiet neighborhood, but there's actually a frat house across the street.  Alternatively, you just found a new drinking buddy.

Why do people trash their own yards?

Why?

Can't see the yard when you're inside drinking Bud Light and watching the TV.

Ah, but they drink outside, ankle deep in their own litter. Not kidding.

Go to YouTube, and search for car detailing. You cannot believe what people will bring in for someone else to clean. Like, cannot see the carpet, and composting has begun in the door cubbies. I wonder how anyone can live like that, and how anyone wouldn't be embarrassed to death for anybody else to see that.
