Ah, yes.  His simple $6.85 million condo inside the highly sought-after No. 9 Walton building, said to include three bedrooms, a huge 14-foot kitchen island, a wet bar and sitting room in the primary bedroom suite, and a sprawling 750 square foot terrace with a hot tub.

He at least made some money on his mansion.

I live sort of near that house. Anything under a million around here is getting eleventy bazillion cash offers on the first day. Anything over a million... *crickets*

Property taxes on the place he sold are probably more than most people make in a year.

You know, that's actually a pretty tasteful mansion.  Basically it's how I'd build a mansion: Understated exterior, a full bath per bedroom, walnut library, expansive basement amenities. Basically all it's missing is a shower for the basement because of the exercise areas, but maybe 2 bedrooms share a bath.

Pretty brave considering he's on the wrong side if 30 and he can't say the new regime will like his cap figures.

Legitimately surprised there is an area in Illinois with $6M homes and $35K taxes.

Reasons:
- Ginormous tax base results in one of the best sets of schools, public or private, in the country.
- Proximity to Lake Michigan. Lake Michigan has nice beaches, and I say this as someone who grew up on Maui.

Good schools exist in most every state. And no matter how long you stare at Lake Michigan, it'll never be an ocean.

There's quite a few suburbs around Chicago that have uber- pricey mansion/home areas, especially along the northern Lakeshore, but also in the western suburbs: South Barrington and Oak Brook come to mind.

Not like New Trier they don't. And for most folks in Glencoe, it isn't a matter of lake OR ocean, lol. But I see your point.
