Raising the military budget when we're finally not at war for a change is idiotic.. but I'd be really surprised if that was their reasoning.. if they even HAVE any reasoning.

See how easy it is?

Biden: I want eleventy trillion dollars for the military!
GQP: they won't get a dime!
Biden: ...okay.

All Republicans except Maine Sen. Susan Collins voted to filibuster the measure.

Well shiat, now I'm very concerned.

Among the objectors, Risch, the top Senate Foreign Relations Republican, and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) called for a vote on their Nord Stream 2 sanctions proposal.
Despite bipartisan backing for punitive actions against Russia, the Biden administration opposes further sanctions on the pipeline, arguing it would alienate European allies.

Fark libs torn on whether to support Biden or or punish Russia.

Call their bluff... don't fund the military, but send out letters to privates explaining that because the GOP refused to fund it they won't get paid.  Then use executive orders to defund the F35's never ending budget burner to issue checks to the privates instead and talk all about it once the GOP sues as they show they care more about a program that has produced nothing concrete compared to actual soldiers.

Now they just need to convince them that we really think Bud Dwyer was totally wrong to kill himself on live TV.

In fact it is politically incorrect to blow your brains out on national TV.

You should totally NOT blow your brains out on live international television because it would really upset me as an anTEEfa liberal elitist stooge trying to take the very gun you would used to... BLOW YOUR BRAINS OUT ON PPV LIVE FOR THE WORLD TO SEE!!!

Totally don't do that.

Because that is wrong and meat is murder and if you murder yourself you become meat and you become meat proving PETA correct.

Also suicide is proscribed by socialist commie brown people for spray tanned wannabe dictators... so The Fat Guy should TOTALLY not go on WWE RAW and BLOW HIS BRAINS OUT ON LIVE TV!!!

It would be very upsetting to me.

Enjoy this post while it lasts...

Well we certainly can't have that.

Umm, why wouldn't we want to put sanctions on this pipeline? Yeah, Western Europe will have to continue to pay a bit more of natural gas, but we should not be letting Putin or Russia make money trading their fossil fuels. Doing so would support the behavior of Russia who still hasn't gotten out of Ukraine or given back the piece they annexed. Does Germany not realize that Russia is going to turn the money from this pipeline into weapons to slowly try and take over Eastern and potentially Western Europe?

Also, Europe has the wealth to start shifting towards renewables and nuclear power and should be doing that instead of buying more gas from a country that would love to conquer them. Here's the fun part of going away from the reliance of fossil fuels; you don't have to buy them from places like Russia and get to keep the money internal to your nation/trading block instead of handing it to Putin to use for Soviet Union 2: Electric Boogaloo.

It must be awesome to be a Republican in Washington.  You can literally do nothing but throw tantrums on TV and vote no on any proposal.  You don't even have to read a bill, you just look at what everyone else does.  $174,000 plus grift money.

Oh yeah, and you can betray the country and keep your head.

I don't know if you're being sarcastic, but is it really a good idea for the US Congress, through its military budget to try and set policy for governments of allied countries?  Is it really the motivation of the Senator from Texas to drive Germans towards renewable energy?

Nope. It will be crickets. If Trump had used his first foreign trip abroad to go running to Putin or tried to prevent bipartisan sanctions from going into effect, you would never hear the end of the "lapdog" comments and the memes would be endless. Biden cozies up to Russia and it's straight up ignored. It would be sad if not so predictable.

If the only thing Republicans are crying about this time is that they want to kick Putin in the nuts, I say we let them have it and pass the goddamn bill. America spent the last four years sh*tting on our "European allies," I don't think this will do much more damage.

Well except that our allies want the pipeline.  Europe is in the middle of a rising energy crisis with natural gas prices climbing into the 200+% over last year.
Russia is using the lack of the second pipeline as the cause when really its an artificial lack of supply on their part.

The Russians need the second pipeline done to feed western Europe gas when they invade Ukraine next year. That will cause the Ukrainian pipeline to be shut down and Russian wants to pacify western Europe with a lack of a loss of 40 percent of their natural gas pipeline.

This has all been known for months and the reason the US opposed the second pipeline in the first place and western Europe and especially Germany still rushed in to suckle at the Russian natural gas teet.

Yes, Europe should do so. And certainly could move faster, currently only Portugal, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Iceland are on track or ahead of it. The United Kingdom is doing fairly well too (there the bigger issue is poorly insulated residences rather than power generation). But even at the fastest possible pace, this is not going to be resolved before 2030 or even later. Nord Stream 2 is likely to prove a strategic mistake on Germany's part, along with the rest of the EU, at the same time there are for the next eight years of so precious few feasible alternatives.

The last time we had a REAL cut in defense, it was led by Richard B Cheney. He did it on purpose because it was smart after the Cold War.

I say let's use this opportunity to actually cut defense. We need to because we can't afford it when we need that money for roads, schools and healthcare.

Don't look a stupid, racist asshole gift horse in the mouth. Use it!

eh, Humanity has worse than Republicans - but they're obviously evil. Republicans represent the ultimate of Political Nihilism - nothing matters but personal power/glory. Anything else is worth grinding down to get what you want right now, even if it'd be bad long term or would be harmful for everyone else.
