I remember playing this for hours and hours with my brother. It was the greatest thing ever!  (back then)

I think the first coin op videogame I played was Space Invaders in '79 or '80.

What I find funny is coin op video games were first installed in bars, but when I was 12, my parents wouldn't allow me to go to video arcades because "drugs were sold there".  I wanted to tell them that drugs were sold in school too, but I didn't think that would go over too well.

Elite?

Oh come on, Elite was the Doom of its era, and Elite Dangerous shows how to keep a 40 year old franchise fresh.  Pong is just tennis.

I just realized that when I was 8 I must have played a prototype or advance release version of pong in either late 74 or January 75. The wiki says the home games came out in xmas of 75.
There was a guy that came over to my house (either a friend or a date of my mother) who brought the pong game and hooked it up to the TV. It was not a homemade unit and was not unlike the Sears console game we got a few years later. I remember he didn't stay long and only had it hooked up for a short time.

We need a re-release of this. With a round ball and colors the player can customize. And ray-tracing.
:)

Grew up with one of these in the house. Wasn't officially Pong, but was tennis, and doubles tennis, and squash (against a solid border), plus shooty gun games as well. Hours of fun, in 1979

My mom bought herself one back in the day. My brother and I liked to play it with the light gun plugged in. Playing the Pong game, one would grab the gun and shoot the ball, turning it invisible for a couple of seconds, trying to make the other guy miss. It really wasn't cheating, because if you were on your toes when it happened, you can still manage to hit the ball back and maybe get an easy point if it hadn't blinked back on yet.

If the guys had registered Tennis For Two when they threw it together for that open house back in the day, then the video game as we know it would be owned by the American Government.
