I wasn't interested.

But now I am.

Thanks Gucci.

This movie probably would have faded in another week or so.  Good job with the Streisand effect Gucci.

Most of the reviews I've seen have called this a turd, not campy enough, and dull.

One might assume that the present Guccis are looking for "no publicity is bad publicity" in order to get those  product placement Gucci products sold.

Why?  Gaga appears to have all of the accent skills of Melanie Griffith.

I dunno, really. There's just something weirdly appealing about it.

Not for an entire feature length film. After about ten minutes of that I'd be ready to put an icepick through my ears.

One of the things I really liked about Chernobyl....no stupid fake accents.

Yeah, the way that they handled that was brilliant -- the actors didn't attempt fake Russian accents, but there was Russian all around -- broadcasts, signs, books and newspapers the characters were reading.  I just kind of assume that those characters are speaking Russian, and not English spoken with a bad Boris Badonov imitation.

I'm sure Ridley Scott will blame millennials and our phones for the bad reviews.

Reviews have been solid. Most gripes I've seen come from developmentally stunted manboys that are upset Ridley said he doesn't care for their "PEW! PEW! PEW!" stories.

I'd watch it if it was directed by Scorsese.

Same with The Death of Stalin. They actually tried fake accents at first, but it sounded stupid, so they went with people's natural voices. According to the director, Russians appreciated that, because Russians don't all have the same "Russian" accent.

Rotten Tomatoes: critics 62%, audience 84%. Seems stunted manboys like it more than professional critics.

Yeah, different dialects everywhere you go. Northern England, Southern England, Wales, etc. A good actor does their research on the particular dialect of the character they are portraying, but it's probably damn near impossible to get that many quality actors in the same room, let alone budget them.

I'm reading the book the movie is based on. All the Guccis sound like type A ego maniacs.

I can't think of any reason why I'd ever see this movie. It looks like Ryan Murphy level garbage.

It's not so much that Chernobyl was doing something new and exciting; what you're pointing out is the standard convention in theater and film.  You give a character an accent (other than their own) only to blend them with or distinguish them from other characters in the story.  If the accent doesn't supply information about the individual character and how their background differs from that of other characters, you don't do it.

If a work is set somewhere that everyone would in reality have an accent, or be speaking a different language outright, you have them speak their native tongue and accent, or at most get them to imitate each others' so they sound like they have the same background.

What's weird and mysterious is why House of Gucci didn't follow this more-or-less universal convention.

// The practical reason you do this is audience suspension of disbelief: if people supposedly speaking translated Italian have heavy Italian accents, audiences will not make the usual translation convention assumption and wonder why Italians in Italy are speaking English, since there'd be no reason for a "translation" to be accented.

That is was a fantastic well done mini-series. I've actually watched it more than once.

The present Guccis have no connection with the Gucci brand. The film explains how the family lost it.

Is it weird that video already reminds me of simpler times in the world.
