Why the Scary tag? Disney, for the most part, has been doing it right.

I hope that means more commercials on Hulu

First season of Jessica Jones was outstanding, although a lot of that was David Tennant's doing.  Krysten Ritter did a good job, but her character's powers are so bland (kind of strong? kind of tough?) that she really needs an interesting rogue's gallery.  They never really found a compelling villain for her after the first season.

It really wasn't about her having goofy superhero powers. She was a private investigator, like a female Sam Spade. It was really getting goof when they sent her sister to the Raft. Now I guess we'll never know what happens.

I couldn't even get into season one of JJ. I blame the streaming services, because there's just too much shiat to watch. If you can't grab me in the first two or three episodes, I usually don't commit. All I remember about what I watched is that it seemed to be moving way too slow and I wasn't ready to dedicate the time until it picked up.

What got me interested in Jessica Jones - Krysten Ritter - I first saw on Breaking Bad. But that show popped right out of the gate. I don't read any of the Marvel comics so I had no backstory going into JJ, it might have helped me be a little more patient.

Plus, they have some extra money laying around from not doing that Mandalorian spin off with Gina Carano.

Those Netflix Marvel shows also suffered from ordering too many episodes per season.  They each had about seven episodes' worth of story to fit into a thirteen episode arc, Luke Cage being the most prime example of this.

$30 billion? That's almost real money!

Disney bought Lucasfilm for just over $4 Billion.  They made that back before the sequel movies even began production.  The merchandising blitz starting in Christmas of 2012 (if everybody remembers) probably made up about a third of that alone.

$33 Billion.  For content they will control forever?  Chump change.

2021-11-29 11:05:25 PM
They just don't have the existing library to compete with HBO Max.  Disney has very few originals that adults can watch.  Hulu is essentially FX plus random jank.  8 billion extra in programming is fine, but they'd be better off acquiring smaller streaming services and folding them into Hulu.

Mediocre, by the numbers bullshiat. Give me some come in my shows Disney.

With that kinda money they could stop running ads on their subscription paid plans.

Time for some trust busting. And an end to their 100-year-old copyrights.

Stop them now or Disney will own streaming as well, for the low, low price of $200 a month. What, you gonna switch back to your antenna strapped to the chimney and the Big 3 networks?

I have an antennae, a fairly large DVD and Blu ray collection, and a couple of shelves worth of books. Somehow, I think I'd be able to survive without Disney.

So anyone want to clue us in into what Disney has been spending on content before streaming? I mean yes, that's a lot of money, but if only 8 billion of that is on originals for 2 different streaming networks it isn't nearly as impressive.

That will change once the contracts end with companies that aren't Warner Bros./Discovery. Soon, every studio but Sony will keep their content within their "walled gardens."

I'll give Hulu a try for .99 cents a month. That's a decent deal.

Give me the unedited version of the original Star Wars trilogy and I'll think about subscribing. I not only want Han to shoot first, I want him to walk over and teabag Greedo's corpse.

Disney should buy Fortiche or accept they are #2 in animation quality.

I'm pretty sure both Punisher and Jessica Jones with the same casting are "returning"/arriving in the MCU. Daredevil is already in the upcoming Spider-Man. Iron Fist has been dumped, but haven't heard anything on whether same Luke Cage will be returning. Kind of hope so since he was awesome in the role, but could see them just recasting both roles to get the right duo going for Heroes for Hire.

Cool.

Give us a series about Finn.  Give us The Adventures of Zorii Bliss.  Make a whole goddamn trilogy where Luke, Han, and Leia are non-geriatric and doing cool heroic shiat on the Falcon so the fanboys can shut the hell up finally.

Give us an animated series about Hera Syndulla and her freakish offspring.

I will pay monies

Until Disney pays off congress to make a new law barring your books and DVD's, sending in their goons with their newly created Disney right to enter your house and seize your contraband books and movies. You will comply to your new Disney overlord.

And, btw citizen, I hope you love superhero movies and series because that is about all you're going to be getting.

Disney can"t rely on the mouse and friends forever, Mickey is gonna be public domain in just a couple years if I understand it correctly. So they'll amass as much content and trademarks as possible. I expect their theme parks to become even less mouse-centric. Starting 2024. I don"t think they're ever gonna release to disc or license to other cable channels like HBO again.

They could also spend themselves down the shiatter. Not everything Disney does is gold. While I am wary of one entertainment entity dominating the industry completely, I don't think it will happen, so it's not a great concern. The world has bigger problems.

2021-11-30 5:52:02 AM
Disney is to movies what Electronic Arts is to games.

They no longer produce anything of value.  They subsist entirely by buying up other, better, more talented studios and then downgrading away everything that made those studios good in the first place.

Both were complete garbage.

But I'd thoroughly support bringing back Daredevil.  I'd really love a 4th season to wrap it up.

yep most shows are only as good as the villain.  darth vader was the BOSS until he was a whiny teenager.  hans gruber made die hard what it is.  the best season of dexter was when dick solomon was involved.

It's cute you think fanboys will shut up.

Frothing rage over trivial things is what they do. It's all they have.

House of Mouse is playing a bigger game.  They have merchandising, theme parks, cults of followers... And, I've got to be honest... more impressed with their product, so far, than I'm seeing out of Amazon and Netflix.  Not that the others haven't had some great things... just that Disney seems to be more consistent.

One recent example is they wanted to remove the swearing from the Beatles documentary. I imagine if it wasn't for the clout that Peter Jackson and the remaining Beatles have they probably would have gotten their way. But think about that, the behind the scenes of The Beatles writing pop songs was nearly too controversial for Disney.
