Well subby, *golf claps*
A whole lot of people are going to understand that reference in another year or two when the TV series gets around to book three.

I started that series when there where only 2 books out. It took so damn long I think I quit with a couple of books left in the series.

I have two left to read but damn if I am going to restart the series just to pick up everything I have forgotten.

However I have the books for the 3.5 setting so I might just piddle around with those again.

"geodesic" First ran into that word in Blish's 'Cities in Flight' series.

I still vividly remember 60 years ago my father telling me he was going to show me a piece of paper with only one side.

Is this real or one of those "see if a science journal will publish gibberish" things?

I am pretty sure I understand all of those words. I can even math most of the stuff those words apply to. I read that three times and keep drawing a blank trying to hook any of that together.

a microlaser takes a Mobius strip shortest path through a surface-like cavity polymer material? Due to either using Non-Euclidian geometry or Quantum Chaos?

WTF

It just seems like a very simple version of the multidimensional loops that matter takes through Calabi Yau space. At least, as far a I remember The Elegant Universe by Brian Green and a few of his other books. (I also went to one of his lecture series waaaayyyy back in the year 2000). They're making light do, in Big Space, what particles do in Teeny Space. The semi-toroidal shape of the Mobiu strip probably means they're using Gaussian geometry, where parallel lines converge, but that's a total guess on my part.

Same. It took so long the author literally died before finishing. Now days I don't something unless it's 4 or 5 books deep.

/If you really want to get into something with volume, try Xanxia novels.

Modesitt has gotten a fair amount of money from me (through his Magic of Recluse series), though I keep expecting to hear how he is as bad as Piers Anthony, Isaac Asimov, Heinlein, if not Orson Scott Card.

Ah yes, order and chaos had a big impact on young me since it was a unique magic system with much deeper implications.

Regarding Piers, I don't think he ever actually did anything improper. Some of his writings got a little out in left field though. ChroMagic series in particular. I think the Xanth series was most kept fairly tame in comparison for the widest appeal.

He should have handed it to Sanderson after book 9.

You got at least three seasons of braid tugging before you get there.
Have fun

So are we finally going to get our photonic computers? I was promised those would be the wave of the future back in the early '90s or thereabouts.

Or is it like fusion where it's always 20 years away?

Put it on the list with flying cars, personal jet packs, commercial space travel, etc.
