(MSN)   Darth Hoodie may have gotten revenge on Coach Vrabel for the last time these two teams met, but Vrabel made sure the Refs knew that they wouldn't like him when he's angry   (msn.com) divider line

The whole episode was great.  They doinked the upright on the extra point and there had to be a microphone right on the goal posts.

I'm a Pats fan, and I could see that there were some shiatty calls during that game. The no-TD TD was just one example; more than a few times, there would be a big play erased by a marginal flag -- for both teams.

But that doesn't explain Tennessee's missed FG and PAT or their woeful injury-plagued offense.

You have to wonder if officiating idiocy like that can throw a coach off his game for a few plays or more.

All scoring plays are reviewed, but this was initially not a scoring play. So of course he has to challenge.

Do I need to call him to explain this rule?

Right after you call the ref to explain that a player must be downed by contact (or give themselves up) to stop play and that neither had happened prior to the ball crossing the goal line.  He shouldn't have had to challenge.  The whole point of the replay booth is to review the easy calls like this.  Unfortunately they only seem to use that ability during the last 2 minutes of the half.

I think the issue is the refs thought he was touched. Hence the need for the replay review, which required the challenge flag.

That's definitely the issue, though Helen Keller could see he wasn't.
