I know I'll never be allowed in Canada after saying this, but I don't like maple syrup.  I just don't like the flavor.  I still like hockey and poutine, though...

Hypothesis...

Everyone got stuck at home, and when they wanted pancakes they added real maple syrup to the shopping. After being fooled by maybe syrup, consumers were left wanting the real, even if they had to make their own pancakes. Thus demand remains slightly higher than supply, and they tapped the reserve they'll replace in the spring.

The pancakes will never be the same without you Canadian maple syrup

Maybe Syrup is the name of my They Might Be Giants cover band.

I'll go on record to say waffles are superior to pancakes in every way.

Canada has a strategic reserve for maple syrup? Sounds like something Klondike Kat would be guarding.

Can I join your club? I don't mind a bit of syrup on pancakes every once in awhile - but this whole "maple everything" craze kinda irks me.
Difficulty -  I'm a Canuckian citizen (born in Britain but exiled because I hate tea).

I normally don't like syrup on my pancakes. Last week for dinner I made a huge stack of them and for some odd reason I drenched them in syrup.

For that I am sorry. I may have inadvertently taken syrup out of the mouths that need it most in these trying times.

Deported from Mexico, didn't like cilantro.
Banned from Thailand, didn't like lemongrass.
Denied at the border of Hungary, doesn't like paprika.

The only thing more Canadian than "strategic maple syrup reserves" would be a drunk Geddy Lee and Gordon Lightfoot getting into a hockey fight over their favourite Celine Dion song.

I'm assuming those are hockey rink ice shavings that the syrup has been poured on?

The Quebec syrup cabal has been around since 2000.. screwing with supply since 2001.

No.  Regular snow from around the sugar shack.

Why go to the trouble of going to the ice rink, when you have some right next to you.

Also, ice rink shavings have a Zamboni hydraulic fluid after taste that is not for everyone.
