Francesca Annis was incredibly hot. I wish we'd seen more of her on the screen, if you know what I mean. And I'm sure you do, wink wink.

I should note at this juncture that Francesca Annis is my mother. I've never interviewed her before and doing so never crossed my mind in more than 13 years as a journalist.

Ohhhhkay. I wish you'd started with that before things got awkward.

The reporter started with that and went to creepy-ville."Thirty-eight years ago, more or less exactly, I was conceived in Mexico while my mum was starring in the much-maligned epic."

Shrug - ever since Fenchurch in So Long And Thanks For All The Fish it's sorta achieved icebreaker status

It's keeping within the spirit of the book, though.

OMG people have sex. Stop being weird about it you bloody puritans.

I love David Lynch but Dune [voiceover whisper]....the movie.... the movie he made.... that he made before Blue Velvet [/voiceover whisper] is the least David Lynch movie ever. But I love the style and set decoration. I mean, why wouldn't future societies wear 19th century Prussian regalia? If only it felt like an actual movie and not a Cliff's Notes summary of the novel [voiceover whisper]...with narration -- inner monologue full of exposition... that explains what's going on.... with the spice.... the spice is the worm, the worm is the spice, what secret is it hiding? [/voiceover whisper]

/must...keep...absolutely...still..... -- yes, we figured that out!! Holy shiat, we don't need his voiceover to tell us that.

I bet Lynch would agree. Only the crew could say for certain, but the general perception (supported by TFA) is that it ended up being more of a DeLaurentiis movie, and we never actually got to see Lynch's vision.

Could have been worse. Jon Peters could have been the producer and they would have been fighting giant mechanical spiders and polar bears in the desert.

is it me, or do i find actors and actress to be boring to interview about something 38 years after it happened?

Probably doesn't remember 99% of what happened

99 percent of life isn't worth remembering.

That last single percentage point is itself broken into memories: five percent friends and family, 30 percent how to do your job, five percent good sex, and 60 percent memories of the dog.

She's pretty lucky that Lynch and Dune came along when he did because she's never really found another use for that terrible voice of hers.

It's always blown my mind that that Lord Voldemort cheated on River Song with Lady Jessica.

But I get it.

Article was meh. Lynch's Dune may have failed at the box office, but the fact it was a cult classic has kept it going for decades.

Also, not one word about the creepy fetish shiat in the film, like the Baron spitting on her head >.>

Interesting article, but Lynch's wilting flower Jessica is worst Jessica.  There is a reason he had to put "weirding modules" in the movie.  It's because Lynch Jessica would have been incapable of teaching the Fremen the weirding way, as she was a shrieking ninny through most of the movie.

Nu Dune is Best Dune.

i would love to see the interview where the male co-star spills the tea about what a whiny, demanding, miserable, PITA the female actor/director/writer/whatever was so we can pretend that he is also brave.

you had to deal with a shiatty personality for a couple weeks and then got to take the next couple months off.

\rant doesn't apply to the rare cases of illegal behavior, obviously.

The "weirding modules" were Lynch's idea because he didn't want "Kung fu fighting in the desert". Proof that Dino De Laurentiis wasn't the only one to blame for the movie not making sense.

Before or after the Water of Life? So how far back do this guy's memories go?

Sounds like the lady is a class act (which she brought to the role).

Oh yeah.  Until I RTFA, I was under the assumption that the entire boondoggle was Lynch's fault.  I had no idea De Laurentiis was that deeply involved in the production, so it's good to see some of that shiat get spread around.

But "kung fu fighting in the desert" would have been impossible with that cast and concept in any case.  He wrote Jessica as a high brow nobility waif, rather than a Benne Gesserit acolyte and killer.  And that happened because Lynch never read the books, and had no idea about the actual story Herbert told.

I will say that Alia grew up to be quite, uh, successful.

Apparently, but have never seen it myself to confirm, there are some scenes in the Macbeth movie she was in... like a decade before dune.
