He's just so damn clever. I mean, all those years of work to infiltrate the NIH, all those credentials that he had to fake interest in, then sneaking in to be a health advisor to Reagan, to Bush, and then GW, all those medical journals he ground through, all that research into AIDS, then Ebola, all those treatments that he helped pioneer,  all to get in good with Obama to UNLEASH his master plan to computer chip the whole US! That is some Next Level villainy. I mean, how many people could work with three Republican Administrations, all to get the Democrats into position to 'vaccinate' a nation from some pretend China-virus? Decades of planning, all to be uncovered by a guy who has gone through bankruptcy more times than he's been married?

You'd think Republicans and the Idiot Brigade would respect his game face. If he faked all that to get a needle in your arm to give you mind control drugs, why haven't they been clamoring for him to be put in charge of the NSA?

Deep down inside, I think that the only way to get the Stoopids to line up for their vaccine is to put it into little blue pills or chews to fight erectile dysfunction. Then you couldn't stop these bastiches from ordering three and four times rounds, every few months. Well, that and maybe sliding doses into Chardonnay and Rose, you know, for the ladies.

It would be easy to get them vaccinated. Have Joe come out and say that they can't have it.

They are so contrary, they will do it just to own the libs.

Or better yet, come up with a "Trump" vaccine that tattoos their body with let's go Brandon and vaccinates them at the same time.

Against my better judgement, I began participating in a COVID-19 discussion with a group of Conservatives. It wasn't quite as bad as it could have been, but it's bad in a way I didn't expect. They claim, to a person, that President Trump took COVID seriously from the start, and the Democrats were the ones who called it a hoax in order to help the impeachment efforts. That's not quite how I remember things, and when I said so, I was called - for real and without irony - a demonrat. Now I don't mind being called names. It's kind of funny, actually. But where on Earth did they get this idea?

It's what they've been told to believe. They've been brainwashed.

My dad let himself be brainwashed. He no longer has thoughts of his own. He's a robot, programmed to spew right-wing lies. It's all he knows how to do. It's almost like he's suffered a brain injury. I quit talking to him, and I've decided to just think of him as being dead. Because the person that my dad used to be *is* dead. Replaced by this hateful, ignorant, brainless creature.

They believe 1) that the virus is a hoax, 2) Trump took it seriously from the start, 3) Democrats caused problems by not taking it seriously, 4) it has caused no deaths, 5) that Trump gave us a vaccine, 6) that the vaccine is what is causing the deaths, 7) that no one gives Trump credit for the vaccine, 8) the vaccine is evil and created by Fauci/Bill Gates

I assume to a person that these people have a hierarchy of things they care about, and stopping immigration is #1 or #2 behind stopping abortion.

I'd bet money that they think Trump acted on COVID because of travel bans he enacted, nothing to do with anything up to and including vaccine response.

See, that's just it.

I DON'T think most Trumpers agree with those two points, otherwise they'd be touting them regularly. For better or worse, Trumpers I've read about or encountered largely IGNORE the vaccine except to shiat on it. They almost want to pretend like he wasn't even President when it rolled out.

I'm not going to be around here forever, but science is going to be here forever.

Not if people like Ted Cruz have anything to say about it, and as long as being an asshole still buys his family trips to Cancun he is going to have a lot to say about it. If you want to know how much it costs to hire a Harvard Law graduate to spit in the face of science just take a look at the net worth of Ted Cruz.

While the science isn't in yet, I've seen a couple of preliminary articles that indicate that Omicron might not, in fact, be the boogeyman. The only "constituency" he needs is the Kochs, Mercers, Sinclairs, Waltons etc who can finance any publicity campaign, with any sort of spin on a narrative they want to, completely free of scrutiny that they do not themselves control.

Dumb people can't remember. Smart people choose not to. It's like when Hannity or whoever was "pondering" on how terrible it would have been if we'd treated AIDS patients back in the day like he imagines antivaxxers are being treated now: as pariahs and infectious scum who brought all their suffering on themselves and who ought to be quarantined in big camps outside of cities and left to die; instead of with compassion and love.

In an ideal world, anyone who heard that would leap over the desk and pound Hannity's head with a big hammer, and start handing hammers out to those who insist that "Trump took the pandemic seriously from the start, he never said it would be down to zero by March [2020]", but alas this isn't an ideal world and we just have to smile and nod.

Folks, no one cares what anyone says on Fark.  Thank goodness.  Nearly everyone is already ignoring Twitter, a much more influential (sadly) site.

We're not helping anyone.  Trying to maintain message discipline, for free (ya fools), for people who don't know you exist, is only going to lead to a complete lack of intellectual integrity.

I think he's mostly fine.  But he's going to come up with a new definition of "gain of function" every 3 weeks.  And I'm pretty sure most Americans wouldn't be ok with this:

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.vanityfair.com/news/2021/10/nih-admits-funding-risky-virus-research-in-wuhan/amp

(From those crazy antivaxxers at VF, obviously trying to help "them").  That's why he goes from patiently explaining to name-calling when it comes up.  He's a politician, and a very skilled one.  He isn't "science".

If we've lost the ability to have even conversations like this one, then "they" already won, and *you're* helping "them".

Once more:  everyone can tell this is a tribe.  You're not influencing anyone and neither am I.  It's a gathering place for a back-slapping society.

Skeleton Man: The Why Not Guy: Against my better judgement, I began participating in a COVID-19 discussion with a group of Conservatives.

They're kookoo, dude. Totally out of their minds. Trying to understand anything about them will at best waste your time, at worst slingshot you down a water slide from hell and straight into a pool of unimaginable insanity where you'll drown in your own thorough and absolute madness.

"Don't try to understand them; and don't try to make them understand you. For they are a breed apart and make no sense."

Naido: Corvus: Naido: "It's easy to criticize, but they're really criticizing science because I represent science. That's dangerous,"

Sounds like someone's been spending a little too much time reading his own press releases.

Your really trying to misinterpret what he was saying.

He was saying that they would look bad by attacking the science so they were turning him into a villain instead which would be easier.

Not surprised you are trying to help them.

What other categorization can they be classified into other than lunatics, reactionaries, book-burners and deliberately stupid assholes?

They "oppose" because anything that comes up, anything founded in deeper scholarship, study and the obsession with development of actuality of fact is anethema to their own obsessions with ghosts, spirits, and the possibility that random events can occur in the world outside of the deliberate control of some unknowable and mysterious entity that they must believe in at any and all costs to themselves.

Especially when those costs include stepping away from the belief system that they were literally tortured into believing from the moment they were born.
