You can say what you want about hating The Eagles but at least it's an ethos.

My absolute favorite coffee liqueur to use here is Borghetti Espresso Liqueur, from Milan. It's a little specialized-you likely won't find it in the supermarket-but it has the body and sweetness of Kahlua but a deeper flavor. It's remarkable. If you love White Russians, or are planning a night around them, it's worth the effort to seek it out.

Hipster douchebag-like typing detected.

My wife loves them, I use vanilla flavored vodka for extra sweetness when I make her one.

The first time I made a White Russian, I was too heavy with the vodka.  My friend and I called them Crazy Ivans.

The only reason to use milk in an alcoholic drink is to clarify it. I'm drinking my Thanksgiving concoction presently.

They were sub-par?

Once you verified the recipe, was it one drink only?

My basic MIL loves White Russians. We went to a hipper-than-usual joint and she ordered one then complained it tasted funny. She was going to send it back.

I took a sip and realized they'd used whole cream. It was freakin' awesome and took it off her hands.

The irony I think of that whole film is that a white russian is not even a good drink.

When the first Beastie Boys album, License to Ill, came out, my buddy swore up and down that it was OJ and beer that made a Brass Monkey. I was a stupid teenager and tried it. Looked lovely coming back up under the mercury vapor lamps out back of the school.

(It needed more Alice Cooper but all we had was a Sony Walkman to share so it wouldn't have had the effect of a movie like Dazed and Confused.)

Well the gag is that a guy like The Dude would bother making a drink with creme and Kahlúa or whatever's in it besides vodak.

The Dude didn't have much money for, uh, you know, food and stuff. A White Russian is a couple of hundred calories.

Can I suggest an alternative? Try the Barbara.

It is stirred, with crème de cacao instead of Kahlua and it has a nutmeg dust garnish. Very post-thanksgiving, pre-Xmas.

Also... and I realize I will get significant pushback here... try making it with barista-style oat milk.

Sounds close to a White Christmas martini I make. Vanilla vodka, creme de cocoa, white chocolate liqueur, and half and half. The Barbara sounds similar but easier.

I think a lot of drinks were invented by simplification or because someone ran out of something and just said "f*ck it, making it anyways".

Try a White Russian with bourbon instead of vodka. Something punchy and cheap like OGD114 or WT101. So tasty it doesn't need a garnish. Also fixes the watery drink problem.

Making your own coffee liqueur isn't that hard to do, just some ground coffee, some sort of liquor, maybe some flavorings and then some simple syrup to make it sweet.  Pretty tasty and you can use whatever fancy coffee you want, I made mine with beans from local roaster and even one batch with decaf.

I'd try that. It can't be worse than thier awful Pina colada nitro beer. I threw away the rest.

oh jeez! never saw that one, but would have tried if I did - just because I love their original nitro milk stout so much (and the very first time I encountered that was on draft, which, just, wow.)

but this one was lovely, not sweet at all (which disappointed my wife, lol - she was hoping it would be similar to her PBR coffee drink) almost like drinking a Boddington's nitro but with a few subtle extra flavors.

Left hand has a nitro variety pack. I found the coconut Pina colada thing in it.
