FTFA The 2024 election could be a rematch between Trump and Biden. Or a race between Trump and a black woman. Or between Trump and a gay man with a husband and children. Lee Drutman, a political scientist at the New America think tank, recently told The New York Times, "I have a hard time seeing how we have a peaceful 2024 election after everything that's happened now. I don't see the rhetoric turning down. I don't see the conflicts going away. ... It's hard to see how it gets better before it gets worse."

Because the Republican Party is working toward turning America into a banana republic-style fascistic autocracy where violence determines the outcome of elections, now is the time to require that all campaigns are run online and that all votes are cast by mail-in ballot.

The GOP understands that smarter people won't vote for them unless there's money on the table. Which is why they have three real demographics: people WITH money who want to keep it, idiots, and idiots who dream that they'll BE people with money.

Democrats do a better job at allowing people with money to keep it.  Republicans are more into letting people pollute and scam people. So, if that is where your money is at I guess it's good for them.  I wouldn't exactly call them smart.

Biden's unpopularity is because the media won't give him a break and keep running every article like this:

Why winning is bad for the Democrats.
Why losing is bad for the Democrats.
Why school board races are bad for the Democrats
Why the coronavirus is bad for the Democrats
Why inflation is bad for the Democrats
Why unprecedented job creation is bad for the Democrats
Why being gay is bad for the Democrats
Why being straight is bad for the Democrats
Why censorship is bad for the Democrats
Why lack of censorship is bad for the Democrats
Why Santa stubbing his toe on his husband's dildo is bad for the Democrats

I swear to all that's holy that if American democracy goe down the drain it will be partially the media's fault for their part in undermining it.

"Biden made it through an entire world leader summit without getting laughed out of the room"

"Biden just spoke for five minutes withOUT lying every sixth word."

"Nearing the end of year one of the Biden admin, and we still don't have any stories about him paying porn stars for sex."

Media needs to trot this stuff out every so often to emphasize what it means to abandon crazy town for a few refreshing moments.

The actual question is what is the Democratic leadership waiting for? They seem to think it's still 1981 and the GOP isn't a lethally irrational gang.

It's not so much mind control as it is crowd control.

The GOP and their media arm successfully created a cult-like following of people who view political disagreements has bloodsport and her so willfully and hateful eight ignorant that all Trump has to do is jump up there, make up a story about how awesome he is and help remind the cultists who they are supposed to hate.

I used to love Gibson, favorite author. The fact that his writing now seems optimistic is really depressing.

TBH, all I want out of Gibson now is to finish his final trilogy before he either dies or goes insane with the realization that his dystopias were optimistic

The statistical number of excess deaths is probably over 2 million easy. I doubt that we find out the true number before I die (I'm 40). Add to that the excess 2+ million people retiring retiring over the same time period and businesses wonder where all the wage slaves are.

Like you said, it's like blaming the firefighters.
