There's a video of Alan Jones testing a Williams that had no suspension, relying on just the flex in the tyres. Jones complained it was bumpy to drive. Williams suggest Jones sit on his wallet.

The last of the "garragistas" as Enzo Ferrari called them. Went from a dozen people racing a second hand car out of an old carpet factory to one of the most successful teams of all time.

/That was IMHO Franks downfall. He viewed drivers as disposable. A bunch of drivers won championships with Williams but were let go the following year and so couldn't defend their championships. Damon HIll won after he was fired and had to move to a second tier team. Mansell moved to Indycar.
Current Red Bull designer Adrian Newey left Williams because they fired Hill without consulting him, after him signing a contract promising him he'd be consulted.
