... and half the smaller companies, will be basic middlemen, selling rebranded items from huge Chinese manufacturers, that will even brand and package the items for you.

...everyone is buying chinese crap these days and marking it up triple or more in some cases.  They can all fark themselves.

Counterpoint: if they're providing better service, selection, and/or product for customers it isn't "stealing" it's just being a better business.

Buying direct through digital marketplaces makes retail obsolete.

So in the end, large vs. small won't matter.

Half of Amazon is just middlemen reselling the same Chinese made crap under different brand names. If anything, the digital marketplace has made the middleman problem worse.
