This is why you always have a PLB on your boat or preferably on your person.  If it comes in contact with water it will send GPS coordinates via satellite to the Coast Guard.

Hope they find them!

tdyak: Ok, I hate to say this, but I have crazy family members as well:

You sent the police.   To do a wellness check.   On a man.   In Florida.

They then started a "manhunt" all over the place for him, and haven't found him or seen anything about him.

There was an open yogurt container AND an active pressure cooker in the house.  Unless that yogurt was moldy, and that pressure cooker had made bricks (and I mean, if EITHER of those food stuffs were edible), this dude is hiding because he thinks the police are after him.

Or the guy had started fixing a meal in the cooker, was snacking on yogurt, and looked out his window.  He sees some dudes messing with his boat and grabs his phone to dash out and film them.

They grab him, steal the boat and turn him into chum.

This is why you always tell someone that you are going out on your boat for x hours, and you plan on taking a nice lazy ride on this specific section of the chart. It doesnt matter if its going to be half an hour to the island you can see from the dock.

ALWAYS tell people your boat trip plans, because if shiat happens they need to be able to tell the coast guard the moment you miss your return window

Accept the reality
It is OK to hold out hope, but it shouldn't consume one.

And you are correct. They are a great thing to have no matter what they are called now.

Hi everyone. Updates:

He's not been found. While nothing is  out of the realm of possibility it's highly improbable that it was a suicide as he would not let his dogs stay untended/abandoned in the house for long periods of time. He loves those dogs like kids.

It's unlikely he left in a hurry. He left the boat dock very neatly maintained.  There's every evidence that he meant to go out on his boat for one last tour before he had to leave the family vacation house for a trip back up north. Appears that he threw some food in the pressure cooker and went out for a ride. Left his wallet but brought his cell phone. He was missing 24 hours when his parents (NJ) asked for a wellness check and the police found things as reported.

His cell phone pinged a nearby tower at 3:15 PM last Monday about the same time a small gusty squall came through and there are some reports that his boat was seeing heading towards the highway bridge back (towards the Atlantic) around the same time. There's now some bits of video where he may have been captured circling around the Key in his usual ride.

He did have safety equipment on the boat but unfortunately  one of the providers was unable to activate the console remotely.

The USCG was amazing and did extensive search. They're calling off the search now.
