Good on him - these mines have been a scourge on the environment in so many ways.

Wonder if those floating plastic balls they use in California reservoirs to reduce evaporation & algae could be used, here. Would cease to be attractive to waterfowl and wouldn't require a full-time bird frightener.

i would give both my nuts to have a job where I go birdwatching all day and my only responsibilities are to play with guns, lasers and radio controlled toys.

Thanks! That was really cool.

One of my software engineers lives out in East Glacier, MT and he's told me of how wind turbines out there need to be shut down to avoid killing some local endangered bird. They, he says, have a guy whose job is to watch the turbines skies near the turbines all day in case one of the birds is flying nearby, and to call in a sighting which then shuts down all the turbines in the area.

I like the plastic ball idea beezeltown mentions above. I wonder if they could survive in the sulfuric acid, though. You'd probably need something less likely to melt in that sludge.

foo monkey: Cheaper than cleaning it up.  The Free Market at work!

Spoken by someone who doesn't understand the first thing about mining.  Yeah, it IS cheaper than cleaning it up. Because those costs are astronomical.
