(MSN)   Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy calls NFL offices to complain about the 14 times they were penalized for 166 yards. Makes one wonder if he mentioned that the Raiders were penalized 14 times for 110 yards   (msn.com) divider line

Maybe that means the refs took over the damn game and all football fans should annoyed at their collective performance this year. Fix the refs NFL, they suck. As a Cowboys fan McCarthy should probably move on and wake his team up because they've been playing poorly the last month, refs or not. That said, as a football fan, I'm not watching for ticky tack fouls that effect scoring and exciting plays.

Did McCarthy turn his head to complain?

Yeah, not going to hate on McCarthy for this one...nobody is saying the Raiders shouldn't be pissed, too. Hochuli wants his TV time waaaay too much, watching games he calls is a slog for the viewer and has to be frustrating for the players and coaches.

Exactly. McCarthy is a terrible head coach who has been blessed with good teams and managed to make them worse, but why should he complain on behalf of another team?

The game was not as fun to watch, but weren't most of those calls correct? If the refs start letting things go, they're going to get accused of having money on the game.

Since the nfl blocks it from being viewed here, lets go down the list shall we?

1) neutral zone infraction, 5 yards. Yup
2) DPI, spot of foul. Yup
3) DPI. Same defender. Same Drive. Yup
4) Holding (offense) ? somewhere?
5) Holding (defense). Yup
6) Offsides (declined)
7) Fight after punt - personal foul. Yup
8) Hands to the back. Yup
9) Roughing the passer. Yesish on hand, not on knee
10) DPI. SAME DEFENDER for the 3rd time. Yup
11) Illegal formation (declined), Holding (offense) enforced. Yup

So maybe they should have a nice long talk with #30 about not committing DPI for close to 80 yards in one game

I mentioned this in the gameday thread, but on Thanksgiving I actually saw a complaint in my memories on FB about Guns Jr. It's not like he just started calling every game close; he's been doing it for years. Granted there is a part of me that wonders if flag happy games are self-perpetuating due to the frustration of getting everything flagged in the first place breeds the late game penalties people complain about most, but either way....

I don't know the pi rule needs to be changed. My guys can't separation from the db. Its ok I'll under throw it to get 40 yards. It's really making the games in general less fun to watch.

The Arena Football League had this handled pretty well, although it requires ref discretion. Basically, it was 10 yards and a first down except if you did something like the breakaway foul rule in the NBA where you just tackle a dude who has clearly beaten you. Then it's a spot foul.

/I only ever saw that called once
//Hochuli spent a lot of years as a ref in the AFL, so he'll already know about it

The current DPI foul was fun when it first came out. Seeing these huge penalties move the ball down the field was cool, but now it's just frustrating. It needs to be changed to 10 or 15 yards and an automatic first down. It will still keep a drive alive but won't be quite the game changing event anymore.

Most teams might get one per game or two. Its something thats easy to avoid

When you do 3 in a game, you shouldnt be playing in OT to get the 4th. So now one guy has half of the entire teams worth of DPI calls for the season

All the calls seemed legit. One or two maybe borderline. I like football. It ain't football without rules.

This just gives defenders license to tee off on receivers on every single potential catch over fifteen yards.  It wouldn't prevent the offenses from abusing the deep flop attempts either.  That's not football anymore.

Consistently calling a penalty a penalty is the only thing that's going to work.

THIS.

Replays showed that those penalties called against Dallas were correct.

If the Cowboys don't want to be flagged all the time then they should stop committing penalties all the time.

Some were questionable to be honest, the last one the receiver grabbed his helmet and the db was trying to pull back.

Looked like the receiver got beat and caused the game Winning penalty.

Meh, as also a Cowboys fan, I don't think any of the FOUR calls against Brown were "ticky tack", especially the OT one.

Watching the replays, I ask myself, "if roles were reversed, would I be pissed if the call weren't made", and the answer all four times was "yes."  Especially the OT one.

(Not as pissed as Saints/Rams fans LOL that shiat will never not be funny)

I haven't watched football in years but the girlfriends family had it on for Thanksgiving. I saw the play where the Raiders receiver caught the ball, got hit and striped, then the Cowboys player grabbed it right before it went out of bounds and tossed it back in to a teammate. It was awesome and a great display!

It immediately got reversed because of the NFLs byzantine, over-judicated rules that seem determine to choke any sort of excitement or spontaneity out of the game and I remembered why I quit watching years ago.

Don't @ me with "BUT FOOTBALL MOVE", I don't care and you're part of the problem.

Screw you Dallas.  Lions fan here pissed at the 14 playoff game with the picked up pass interference play.  Even if that was ok dez Bryant ran on the field without his helmet screaming at officials.  That is also a penalty.  Yes Stafford still sucked the rest of the game but Holy crap the home cooking.
