Fark Comic-Con International...

Still pissed that they took WonderCon away from the San Francisco area and moved it to SoCal. (although, fark Moscone Center as well for dicking around with the refurbishment dates. A pox on both Houses...)

More pissed that pre-COVID, they moved the date to force a head-to-head conflict with Emerald City, forcing fans to choose between the two for a while.

And fark them for jacking up the booth prices to beyond what long-time vendors who supported the con before comics became a media juggernaut  and small press could afford.

If I catch the Omicronian variant, I'm going to die while making Futurama jokes.

skyotter: If I catch the Omicronian variant, I'm going to die while making Futurama jokes.

I can almost hear Professor Farnsworth explaining,
"While only slightly mote contagious, scientists in the early 21st century gave the variant the name Omicron in-order to help the less intelligent members of the human race understand how terrible it is to reject and effective vaccine during a global pandemic when countries with less access to effective vaccines would gladly accept them.

While some countries were wasting vaccines waiting for numbskulls to change their minds, other countries spent their resources on alternative rocket launch technologies.  After the pandemic ended, these nations realized that staying on Earth and waiting for morons to not take vaccines during the next pandemic was stupid.

So they left and founded a new civilization on Omicron in the Preside Cluster.  Now a thousand years later, the Omicronians only remember that humans are the stupidest race in the galaxy and while Ph.D candidate after candidate finds that undeniably true, this building is rent controlled.  So crew, you've to find a way to stop the Omicronians from destroying Earth."

"You can count on us Professor"

"Of course.  You're the heroes the human race deserves."

*The crew takes off and the professor begins packing his bags.*

I remember going to New York Comic Con and realizing, "hey this is just a flea market"

//best flea market i ever went to tho

Yeah, I wonder the same: if it's just a big dealers room and no programming, isn't the stuff for sale already online?

It was mostly smaller vendors, other than
funkopop. Some programming, but mostly fan panels. Definitely more of a wondercon vibe. Still, nice to be back at a con after two years.

Only have been to NYCC once. Got to hang out with Darryl McDaniels (Run-DMC) for a while. He was promoting a new Hip-Hop comic of his back then.

Any Pie Left: Yeah, I wonder the same: if it's just a big dealers room and no programming, isn't the stuff for sale already online?

Our Comic Con here in Michigan degenerated into that, to the point that the same vendors were even in the same spots in the same building selling the same crap as previous years.

Last time I went I saw the same stupid 2-foot tall statue of Frankenstein's Monster for sale for the third year in a row, standing on a table in front of his beat-up cardboard box with a $400 price tag on it, and all I could think about was how many times has this vendor packed and unpacked this ridiculous thing, with it's faded, absurd price tag, since the previous year? How many convention-goers at how many conventions have walked past this stupid, overpriced thing since last year?

The media guests in the past several years have been wholly uninteresting, and the Nerd Flea Market is no longer a good enough reason to buy a ticket, pay for parking, and wait in line.
