There was all this speculation about who Donald Trump would pardon in his last days in office.  You heard he might pardon himself, he might pardon everyone in his family, he might pardon Rudy Giuliani, or Matt Goetz -- and Joe Exotic was in that speculation.  In the end, Trump's final list of pardons was about the same as it for any garden-variety corrupt politician -- a bunch of people who gave him money.

Poor Joe Exotic. All he ever wanted was to be famous, and now he is and can't enjoy it.  Good, he's a farked up bastard.

Don't worry, he's going to pardon him soon.  In two weeks, I hear.

Trump can't afford to lose the lunatic and murderer vote.  That's half his base.

It is funny how the free Joe exotic supporters showed up to the capitol on Jan 6 and got chased away by the mob.

More like four weeks, after he ascends to his throne on Dec. 25th, just like in the bible.

He lost Joe Exotic's support the moment he left office and he couldn't pardon him any longer.

Dude turned on Trump because he didn't get a pardon lol

Anyway, now that The Tiger King is a year old, can we talk about how shiat it is that it kinda spun Joe Exotic's scumbaggery as some kind of folksy shenanigans, while holding Carol Baskins to a moral equivalency for -gasp- having volunteers, and stretching facts about her husband's disappearance so thin you could make crepes out of it?

I mean, don't get me wrong: Carol Baskins sucks. But it really does annoy me that, for a few months Joe Exotic became this weird folk hero while Carol Baskins became public enemy number one because some folks don't have the media analysis skills to discern how documentaries dishonestly frame shiat.

Anyone who watched the show and came away thinking Joe was a folksy hero is farking insane. He was quite clearly a piece of shiat with a bad business model, a ridiculous obsession with Carol that he may or may not have though would ultimately increase his business, a ton of his own mental health problems, an abuser of staff, and a criminal in his own right even if he wasn't involved in a half assed hiring of a hitman (whose choice of interview location is epic).

Everyone in his orbit was farked up at least, and equally scummy at worst.

I can't blame the show for insane people being insane.

Netflix just did up update.  The case against her in the first season wasn't really that impressive.  However, they dug up some more stuff.  Her husband never showed up to his property in Central America, she lied about hiring a bounty hunter to go look for him, and lied that said bounty hunter had found evidence the guy was down there.  Most suspiciously, she was acting like a loon the night he was found, and transported a bunch of guns to a former employee, who himself seems to be a violent loon.

Ya, but local law enforcement had direct connections to her and said there was no evidence of crimes.

Everyone here trusts law enforcement connected to suspects.

When I first watched the show, I walked away thinking "wow, that was a show about bad people!" Over time however, I started to notice that Carol Baskins in particular got most of the internet's ire while Joe Exotic was treated... considerably better? At the very least, the "bad people are good, actually," types of folks started treating him like some kind of folk hero, which is no doubt why people thought Trump would give him a pardon in the first place.

The Legal Eagle did a pretty decent job of pointing out that while she's a shady person in a shady business, literally the only two people featured on the show without criminal records are her and her (current) husband.
