That's got to be the stupidest move ever: taking a selfie next to a crocodile.

/Only take selfies with alligators.

"There were no advisories warning us not to enter the enclosure. Because if there were, we would never have gone there," Mr Chipada's daughter Mercy Joy told local media.

Apart from the fence he apparently had to climb over.

No one warned me that crocodiles are dangerous!  Just look at them - they're so soft and cuddly.

In fairness, there does appear to be a giant stone turtle next to the pond which could make it understandable why he thought it was a fake.

Either that or some assh*le put up a photo of Senator Vreenak next to the croc

That fake tortoise didn't help, right beside a live croc that looked fake , don't remember if article mentions there are 'live croc' signs on the fence.

When I travelled when I was younger, I stroked both crocodiles and tigers. I want to slap my younger self for that.

Worse though, my ex-wife was in Northern Queensland and after a long, very hot drive, she went for a swim in a lake. Those crocs had one job.

This is why I think warning signs are a bad idea.  Anyone with any brains whatsoever is going to know, based upon where they are, if crocs or other dangerous animals are a potential threat to your own life.

By warning people of the dangers, and taking active measures to prevent them from being killed, we are interfering with the process of natural selection.  This might be good on the individual level, but bad for humanity overall. It means the average intelligence level is going to drift downwards, and there will be less incentive for individuals to make wise decisions on their own.  Brain is like a muscle:  the less you exercise it, the weaker it gets.

Following the horrific incident, Mr Chipada's family have turned the blame on the park, claiming there were no signs to warn tourists about the deadly animal.
"There were no advisories warning us not to enter the enclosure. Because if there were, we would never have gone there," Mr Chipada's daughter Mercy Joy told local media.

It was enclosed, in an enclosure, for a reason.
Wonder what that reason was?

This guy is apparently from the Philippines and is also in his 60s. He really has no excuse. It's not like he was from Germany where there are no tropical predators or he was 10 years old.

Growing up in Florida (assuming your parents aren't morons), you're told...

1) If you encounter a body of water where you can't see to the bottom of any one part, you must assume there's an alligator in there somewhere, because eventually there will be. Don't be hanging around the edge of random ponds, and don't let your child or dog do so either.

2) If you see something that looks like a gator, or a log, or gator-like, assume it is a gator until you can discount it as such. They have an impressive ability to look like dead trees.

3) Don't fark around with gators because they will seriously fark you up.

There's other rules associated with spiders, snakes, sharks, bears, mockingbirds, humans, etc but that's for another time.

God--: This little dude was hanging out at the pool with us yesterday.. (Vacationing in Hilton Head)[Fark user image image 425x566]

I lived in Hilton Head as a small child from '77 to '80. I used to wander the water hazards at low tide looking for lost golf balls for my dad to sell to his buddies at the plant. Gators were an everyday companion and I never thought twice about them. Between that and the bottle rocket fights I don't know how I survived the '70s.

I don't always feel like I can 100% relate to a comment in an article but yes, this is exactly how I would feel. It's not like because I've seen both Crocodile Dundee 1 AND 2 that I'm all of a sudden an expert.

That's what I thought.  And the crocodile was just in that little pool, which you would not expect.  he should have known, but I've heard of much stupider things.

Took a boat trip at the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge. To get to the boat you walked along the top of the sloping bank passing quite near a large gator who was sunning itself. Coming back from the trip.as we passed the gator, my wife let out a yell. Turned out on the way to the boat she thought it was a statute. The second time by it moved and scared the hell out of her. She said she almost went over and sat on it so I could take her picture.

That's not negligence, that's helping mankind weed out the stupid.  And yes, I know the story, and the parents were very, very stupid.
