Hello.
Will the new manager bounce continue this weekend?

Usual summary of last week is here
The ref table gets a shake up after Taylor's 6 card outing last week. While Mr Dean could only muster a feeble 2 yellows.

Taylor gets another arm work-out session on Sunday while Dean doesn't even feature. Full listing of appointments here

The worst of the weather has passed now, but it's still pretty grim up north. Newcastle are probably glad they're down in London today.

In amongst all the OGS stuff on social media last weekend, this tweet was slightly overlooked

Also, can we talk about the disaster that was Spurs in Europe this week?

Cause that was *epic*.

Good morning all. I am thankful that OGS is no longer in charge at Man Utd. And with Woodward (supposedly) out by the end of the year, Utd finally have an opportunity to make some smart appointments.

From the very beginning I said he was a sentimental appointment, a reasonable choice as interim manager through the end of the season, but he was never remotely qualified to be the long-term manager; and that should have been obvious to everybody at least as soon as the honeymoon was over. Unfortunately, he always seemed to do just enough to stave off the firing, hinting that the breakthrough had arrived... only to promptly regress soon afterwards.

Of course, the revolving door transfer policy didn't help, and the number of players who stagnated at Utd while excelling before and after (see also: Lingard while on loan at West Ham) is staggering. But the worst part is that the transfer policy seemed to be entirely disconnected from what Ole was trying to do on the field, and driven more by somebody's spreadsheet projections of shirt sales than any strategic plan. And Ole was too weak to stand up to this, settling for simply not selecting the expensive acquisitions that he didn't want in the first place (van der Beek), while doggedly playing others despite routinely poor performances (Fred).

And this is what worries me about the talk of bringing in Poch. Rumor has it that he has exactly this problem at PSG, and it's one of the big reasons he is unhappy there. If that is repeated at Utd it will be another short-lived failed appointment. Perhaps with Woodward gone the new manager, whoever they might be, will have control over transfers, but if they don't, I don't expect to see much change at Utd.

Not sure what Conte was thinking to be honest. I know Mura's considered one of the "minnows" but his team selection screamed, "We can field any old dreck & still beat this lot."
I gather he didn't speak to the players after the game ended

Poch's family also lives in London. So he's really not very happy at PSG all round.
But I see they've agreed terms with Rangnick & I haven't got a scooby doo who the heck he is

So the chap coming in at United for the rest of the season was lured not by the manager job, but by a more senior role on the board next season.

I had to do some digging myself cause my first reaction was also "who?"

He's been a major part of the Red Bull club takeover projects, running the board at several of them before taking over for a while as head of the red bull football project in its entirety for a while.

Can you imagine the fury if Red Bull bought United and renamed then RB Manchester?

Fort William game postponed today.
But they have had a lot of volunteers working on Claggan Park & it's in great shape now so looks like they can play home matches on it at last.
In fact, according to them, this Wednesday they'll play the 'El Claggico' against South Lochaber Thistle in a friendly game.
Their league form is something to behold. 75 goals conceded in 15 games

One of the things they do in WSC is dedicate their back page to looking at a season from the archives.

This month was the highland league from 93/94.

Fort William finished 16th of 18 with 8 wins.

They're walking around. Arsenal's quality of play relies on energy, and they're not displaying it at the moment. If they don't improve that, they'll absolutely lose this match.

I ain't saying I WANT the Gunners to lose, but this is a show I've watched before. When they're just walking around, they tend to get walloped on the counter--that they gave up because they weren't expending energy to close down the opposition and let them run right through the middle.

And considering we are smack dab in the middle of World Cup qualifying, the log jam effects will be worse than usual.

European qualifying for the World Cup is over now until March when they do the playoffs. But yeah, South America, North America and Africa are still deep in their campaigns.

Cyrene Valantion: The winter fixture logjam gets underway, for some reason we make the teams play way more games in December than any other month.

In the old days, it was to provide entertainment over the holiday season when lots of working people had a break. And back in those days, we also had a lot of postponements because of weather affecting pitches or travel, so a theoretically jammed calendar might become a lot less so in practice.

In these days of infinite choices of entertainment, heated pitches, and more reliable travel, we should really be thinking about a winter break rather than a winter glut.

2021-11-27 8:41:47 AM
According to the BBC, Both Ralph Hasenhuttl and Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp are admirers of incoming Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick, considered the 'Godfather of gegenpressing'.

I'm unclear how you play any kind of pressing game with Ronaldo in the team. The smart - and probably impossibly brave - approach would be to only play Ronaldo in games where Utd expect to sit back and counterattack, for example CL away games.

Mind you, I'm not sure how much enthusiasm Pogba has for pressing, either.

As far as a winter break goes, no choice next year cause of the World Cup.

Most players will be getting a winter break next year.

Newcastle seem afraid to have possession in the Arsenal have. As soon as somebody gets the ball over the halfway line, their either turn back or play a backwards pass.

There's a little kid near one of the effects mics who screams every time Arsenal come forward

That just means they are going to front-load and back-load the schedule, resulting in various national teams screaming about all the wear-and-tear the EPL schedulers forced their players to endure leading to injuries.

Saka after some nice one and two touch passing.
1-0
