Ryan Reynolds is one cool dude. He works hard to make great movies, and he also works hard to support charities. I don't care if you like the movies, but we should all acknowledge that he is a rare and beautiful thing in this awful, materialistic world.

I'm not one for hero worship, but he does seem to be a really decent guy and a great Canadian who merits the award.

for quite some time i have had a sneaking suspicion that canada is a myth. a hypothetical abstract metaphor for a better world that is just beyond the winds where everything is groovy. sort of if never never land packed itself into narnia and moved the whole shebang to the cool part of middle earth.

Absolutely.

Though it does occur to me it's a lot easier to be a great guy when you have a massive bankroll to play with.  I'm not saying I'd work half as hard at being a quarter as generous a guy as Reynolds is if I had his money, but I am saying I couldn't do a tiny fraction of what he does with multiple lifetimes' worth at my income level.

Good for him. Nice to see good people get recognized. I had no idea he had done so much in charity and helpful organizations and that's because he isn't some self-aggrandizing douchebag. Kudos, Mr. Reynolds.

The best CSB I can with Canada is that during one visit to Toronto, on the first day, we ran into two rude Canadians (one biker early in the day, and one just crazy lady post-Blue Jays game). After the second incident, I joked to my wife about seeing two rude Canadians in same day was unprecedented...followed by a few Canadians behind us overhearing and apologizing for their actions (those dudes were awesome).

It's not often noticed by Americans... but we've completely infiltrated the comedy niche in American entertainment.  I think it's something in the water.  Or maybe we're more inbred or something.  You met a group that hadn't made the border crossing yet.

You've got your cause and effect backwards.  Its a lot easier to have a bankroll when you're a great guy.   He made his money and fame by being a genuinely caring, funny individual who epitomizes the best parts of Canadians.  He isn't a Jay-Z who got famous and then decided to give back.  He's a guy whose always gave back and that attitude made him famous.

After watching that, I'm all for a Canadian invasion of the United States.  Even if it's only to give Ted Cruz his maple syrup and poutine boosters, it'll at least do some good for this country.

Someday, when the US of A becomes the disUS of A, I hope Canada annexes my beautiful little corner of the world.

Yeah, the grass really is greener on the other side.

It was all Martin Short wasn't it? While we were all distracted by Rick Moranis, Martin lead the comedy takeover

There's no grass in Canada. It's all frozen tundra.

Unless you mean THAT grass. There's a lot of that. Thanks, Justin

Okay...

Just so that I'm prepared for when our benevolent Csnadian overlords extend their Dominion southwards...

Who was the singer?  My knowledge of Canadian music is limited to Bryan Adams  and Rush.

/no, I don't know of these Avril Levine, Drake, Justin Bieber, and Nickleback that you speak of

It would be awesome if that were true, but there are enough rich assholes out there I think the stats are going to disagree strongly.

Let us at least be happy that it is possible to be rich and still be a great person.
