There's no room for half-assing, drop it and move on to the next project. Especially if the show was going to get brigaded by the Carano shiatbag fandom.

How about just a Dune tv series? That Dune movie turned out pretty good. I could see it as the next Game of Thrones

I just don't think there was a compelling argument for the Rangers series, especially compared to The Mandalorian and The Clone Wars.

TCW understood that by definition, the arc of the fall of the Galactic Republic was incomplete. How does a massive multicultural democracy composed of trillions fall into becoming a racist dictatorship in the space of just 2-3 years. In return, The Mandalorian asks why generally peaceful and motivated people can't come together to actively fight evil which is a critical question for explaining the state of the Sequel galaxy.

The Rangers of the Republic series was going to be about... violent authoritarians rebuilding a barely coherent galactic superpower that couldn't even protect its capital from the fractured remnants of its greatest enemy? But as the heroic competent good guys? I can't see a scenario where it wouldn't turn out to be a disaster.

Did anyone actually want this? I didn't mind the character, but Carano's "acting" made me cringe, every single time.

I would have watched Star Wars: The Appa Adventures; they should have just rolled with him as an aging pilot trying to find his way after a Revolution

I don't believe for a second that anyone was going to give Laura San Giacomo's stand-in a major role in anything with that much money behind it. Nor do I believe her character was the crucial foundation of that concept. Seems like a convenient excuse to feed the mob who were inexplicably clamoring for an undeveloped pitch they've since discarded.

Rumors are circulating that Gina Carano is returning to The Mandalorian...

2021-11-26 11:09:06 PM
Disney keeps wavering between Star Wars series proposals that must have resulted from giddy meetings similar to Key and Peele's Gremlins 2 sketch, and morning after regrets where they wildly cancel things. I bet a sitcom based on the behind-the-scenes shenanigans of Star Wars would be way more entertaining than any of the shows about the Star Wars universe itself.

I'm probably one of the biggest SW nerds around here (except I've never really seen the animated stuff) but so far we have the Mandalorean, Obi Wan, Boba Fett and some girl Jedi who name I can't spell, all have upcoming shows. We don't need to have comic book movie levels of oversaturation.

"We're going to do a show called Rangers of the New Republic, based around Cara Dune"
"Okay, give us a draft of the show arc"
"Um, Cara Dune and some guy fly their X-wings around righting wrongs"
"Not much of a plot, what are you actually planning"
"We have no plan, just pew pew, bad guy dead, Gina Carano make quip"
"Well we fired her ass, if you want this to go forward, we need an outline"
"Two X-wings fly around, pew pew, bad guys dead. Fan service plots."
"No, an ACTUAL show arc is what we want"
"Pew pew, bad guys dead?"
"CANCELLED"

Ahsoka is going to give the new nerds what they want.

Bob is giving the old heads what they want. As much as they can pushing a PG rating anyways.

Obi is giving more Maul fan service. And melding the old and the new fans.

Mando is kind of on hiatus if it isn't outright completely finished until Bobs book is released and Ahsoka gets pushed out.

There wasn't even a reason to go Republic Rangers with out Kennedy's wet dream of female empowerment until it became too troublesome to keep trotting Gina out there.

And it's still not enough content for their subscription service.

Gina was a little butch for my tastes but did she really say anything so bad that she needed to get black listed for it? I mean Mel Gibson insulted the jews and he's directing another Lethal Weapon.

They're not finished with Mando by a long shot. Have you seen all the Baby Yoda merch?

They need some sort of Disney After Dark feature and bring back the Netflix Marvel shows. It's not like they were pornographic or anything.

Mel Gibson is a little higher on the food chain of people who have made those studios money than Gina Can't Act Carano.

Carano has been vocal about her distaste for The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm, Ltd., publicly stating that she was "bullied" by the powers-that-be and sharing that her new project - a Western film - with Ben Shapiro's Daily Wire will "take down the Death Star".

Despite this, Carano's supporters called for the former women's MMA and Muay Thai fighter to return to the Star Wars story - and a new rumor indicates she could be back for The Mandalorian Season 4 thanks to support from showrunner Jon Favreau, leading man Pedro Pascal (Din Djarin), and Giancarlo Esposito (Moff Gideon).

I suspect the real reason that Rangers was cancelled was that the Mandalorian was already making audiences bored with their Tom & Jerry levels of endless stormtrooper murder-porn and that we knew that such a new series would only offer more of the same in dumptruck quantities.

Mel's also been keeping his mouth shut since 'sugar tits', and backing RDJ while filming Iron Man have earned him some redemption to at least the industry.

Gina just kept talking shiat, so no redemption for her.  Her ego seems to need a pegging, which probably won't happen until/unless this Shapiro movie bombs, which I doubt ever even releases.

I'm a super liberal, but if Cara Dune comes back to the Mandalorian for another visit, that's perfectly fine with me.

Clearly, Disney is going to spend the next year so playing around in the post-ROTJ pre-TFA sandbox that the Mandalorian created... but if I know creative types, they're probably talking quite a bit about what the next major phase of Star Wars should be.

Go back into the past of the high Republic?

Go into the future after the Rise of Skywalker, and find some fresh new direction now that the emperor is finally gone for good?

Or... and I know they're considering this... going back and doing a second Trilogy with Luke, Han, and Leia, kind of like what George Lucas should have done in the mid-90s?

Carrie Fisher's death is tragic, but it does help them open the door to recasting the original trio for a new adventure where they're not yet so old.

You know they want to do it. They're going to do it.

Yeah, I liked her character and wasn't bothered too much by her idiot opinions, but she just wouldn't stop even when her bosses made it clear she was over the line. Star Wars will be fine without her too.

Hey, I had that too. Didn't have that many stormtroopers though.

Diverging for just a minute on Lethal Weapon, is Mel just directing or are Riggs and Murtagh coming back? Because they're both definitely too old for this shiat. It'd have to be a Die Hard situation where they don't have their badges but get caught up in some shiat. Except they did "Die Hard on a ____" everything in the 1990s.

Maybe they could go to Mars and meet terrorists there. Anyway, if Mel is directing, someone is going to get the shiat tortured out of them.

No offense, guy, but your love for Star Wars puts you beyond mere super fannishness and deep into religious cultist territory. If they made a new SW series featuring Donald Trump, Alex Jones, Kyle Rittenhouse, and the cloned brain of Adolf Hitler, I think you'd still be willing to give it an unbiased chance.

I honestly think Disney is quietly feeding the "Can the Mandalorian continue without Cara Dune?" online questions, because they know she was a tertiary character at best and of course the series will be fine without her. Her absence will be less of a loss than dropping Dr. Pulaski from Next Gen was.

But it helps keep some of the focus off the real question: Can the Mandalorian survive without Baby Yoda? As the top toy-selling breadwinner of the family, I'll be very surprised if 'lil Grogu doesn't make a return in at least one episode, if not a full return as a series regular.

Maybe he can take over Dune's job as Space Sheriff. Just think how adorable he'll look in a ten gallon hat that's at least eight and a half gallons too big for him!
