My mom spanked me with my own Hot Wheels track once when it was the closest thing handy.

I probably did deserve it.

My dad used to beat my ass with one back in the day as well.  Not abusive, but some of those spankings were epic, I deserved them as well and I hold him no ill will

Friend of mine's dad used to tell us about his grandfather who was huge and ridiculously strong.  He'd go get a wooden spoon to spank them with when they misbehaved, not because he wanted to make it worse, but because he was afraid to just hit them with his hands for fear of doing damage.  Even open-handed he wanted something fairly flimsy he couldn't overdo it with easily.  They had an old picture of him that was taken next to a height measuring wall display, dude was 6'6", built like a barrel, and a longshoreman to boot.  I can understand the concern

/grandma was 5'4" according to the picture

When I was in college in the late '70s a friend and I built a marble track in my dorm room. The room had 9' ceilings with acoustic tile, that we could stick straight pins into. The track was made of 1" strips of poster board, scored with an Xacto knife to make it easy to bend up into a U channel that we suspended mostly from the ceiling with thread. It actually went all over the room including under my bed platform and down the walls, with Y diverter gates and multiple tracks and gadgets for the marbles to go through.

My friend's dad had an SX70 Polaroid camera that we used to take some pictures. Later on I took pictures of the Polaroids with my 35mm camera, and just recently I scanned those negatives. So the pictures are craptastic but here are some of them.

At the end of the year it all came down and most of it went into the trash. The next year we built another one that also went into the trash. The next one caught fire, fell over and sank into the swamp. (No - no sorry, that was a castle.) Anyway, all this may have had something to do with why it took me five years to graduate.

Years later I built a self-contained portable version using .50 diameter steel bearing balls instead of marbles and 1/16" diameter copper-coated steel welding wire for making the track.

thanks for sharing, subby. and huge thanks to all those involved making that amazing video.

one Christmas I got a Hot Wheels set that had two special vehicles each carrying a fighter jet. the beginning of the track set had a orange plastic clamp; this was placed on the upper back of one of those old step stool chairs found in 'murican homes in the 50's-60's. there was a tandem tab set so 2 tracks went side by side off the clamp up on the step stool chair, giving the track height as it went down to floor level.

after setting up the track the plane toting HW's were set in placed and allowed to roll down the steep track. click! simultaenously the 2 airplanes shot off the vehicles and went skyward right into my parents beloved ceiling tile. for reasons unknown that ceiling tile was a pride and joy thing in their lives. I got no clue, I'm sorry. Any way, those Hot Wheel planes stuck right in the living room ceiling. My joy turned to a pile of poop as I immediately knew this was going to be another disappearing gift.

sure as shiat that entire Hot Wheels set was gone the next day and the 'rents were unsmiling for a few days. I still can't figure out why my parents had kids.

For the production level, those commentators have their MXC back-and-forth style pretty well polished.

Wife and I decided for our second kid we'd have sex every day until she got pregnant.

But yeah, your hot wheels track is neat. Reminds me of that time when I was 10 a couple of us guys in the neighborhood combined our electric race track sets to completely a basement.

So yeah. Since I was a kid in the 80's we also had a fire pit we made in the woods far away from prying eyes where we'd experiment with blowing things up. It's probably a miracle everyone came out of that place with all their fingers. It all started with seeing "do not dispose of in fire". But yeah. Neat hot wheels setup.

I bought a bagful of hot wheels track at a yard sale, really cheap. I tried setting it up going down the stair into the basement, but mom made me take is down. Later I tried setting something up in the game room downstairs, and she didn't want it there either. At some point she donated it to the thrift store without asking me. She said it was because I never used it.

Family story at least was that grandma was tired of getting hassled.  She was a Latina, and caught a lot of shiat because of it 'cause people are assholes - up to a rape attempt - and back then as a Latina GFL going to the cops.  So when she found a gigantic farking dock walloper white boy that was a nice guy she jumped all over that shiat - all meanings intended.  Word got around who her bf and then her husband was - people shut the fark up right quick with the comments.  At least where she could hear them, anyway.  No one even tried to lay a hand on her after that became well known

/friend was 6'4" in 6th grade - if nothing else the height was not a recessive gene

This is super cool. Thanks for posting those pics. Not only was your setup awesome, but it hits a little different knowing you did it just to do it. No social media, no Youtube, no clicks or hits or views. you did it just for the fun challenge. It's awesome!

Well it wasn't rocket science but for what it's worth, I was an aerospace engineer for 34 years.
