Removing the victim from the scene of the crime for Self defense?

Or were you taking him to the hospital and got lost?

Cop was just trying to see how he could charge him for assaulting a police officer.

It's been decades since I've been to Newark. Good to see it hasn't changed all that much.

Only thing I can think of in defense is that there are no pedestrians allowed on the Garden State Parkway, other than that, nothing is defensible about what this cop did.

I find it interesting that he didn't have any cop friends that he could run to for help dealing with a dead body.  He had to go to his mother.

/I don't know if it means anything.  It's just interesting.

Sounds like he's going to be suspended with pay.

Why do you park in a driveway and die on a parkway?

Never a good idea to get all up in a cop's grille.

And the charges whittled down to jaywalking.

Are we allowed to say Defund the Police yet?

"Santiago was charged with vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of crash resulting in death, endangering an injured victim, desecrating/moving human remains, hindering one's own apprehension, conspiracy to hinder prosecution, tampering with physical evidence, obstructing the administration of law, and two counts of official misconduct, Stephens said."

That's two weeks suspension with pay.

An observation vs. a determination?

Maybe letting barely adult 25-year olds that struggled to get a GED and potentially still live with their mom be cops is problematic

That was a George Carlin line. Seinfeld just isn't that funny.

He's going to prison.
10 years, out in five for good behavior.

IANAL, Is "hindering one's own apprehension," a crime ?
What is the definition of this...if you don't go and hand yourself in immediately I guess you are guilty .... ?

The pay for an ex-cop working at a privatized prison won't be good enough to retire in 5 years.
It's a pretty cushy job though, and a great chance to abuse inmates.

His daddy is a cop, the job was his.

BTW, I went to high school with a guy whose daddy was a cop.  This guy was hired straight out of high school and he retired at 45 years of age with a $90K pension and full medical/dental/vision.   Police work in US Murica is mostly a scam.

Also IANAL but it basically means he took deliberate action to hide his crimes. Hindering apprehension can also be applied to people that hide fugitives and similar things.

"Santiago's father, who is a lieutenant in the Newark Police Department, called 911 and reported that his son was in an accident, Stephens said."

So the father turned his son and wife in?
