Patriots are strong again.

I think the fix is in: Brady vs Belichick for the championship.

Partially because on 3rd and 1 in the red zone Matt Ryan took a 13 yard sack again.   Then a formation penalty took their FG off the scoreboard.  Then they missed the 50 yard retry.  It was still only 16-0 with 2 minutes left.  That's a bad team and a lost coach.

The real season for New England starts now.  Titans, @Bills, (bye), @Colts, Bills.
Then Jags and Dolphins - not very good teams but who have won big games this year.

Running through that all just for a road playoff game in Arrowhead doesn't sound great.  Next year they need to win their close games early in the season and get the bye and home playoff game(s)

Typical Northeast-centered headline.

The Falcons are ALSO giving up an impressive 61 consecutive points and haven't scored in 7 consecutive quarters. Why aren't we celebrating how much they suck?

Because Pats fans need to feel important.

Dallas kills the Falcons in roughly 2 quarters.

.Football fans.. Falcons suck  Dallas hasn't beaten anyone good yet.

Pats do worse when the Falcons qb was stumbling for 1/2 the time he played. Omg Bill is taking them to the superbowl.

The was KC is playing, they will be lucky to get A home game.  As for NE, they are now 5-0 on the road this year.  Highly doubt they are scared of going into anyone else's house at this point.

7 quarters is also how long it's been since NE has given up a point.  The last score they allowed was on CLE's opening drive last weekend.

Yes, that's what was brought up many times during the broadcast and was hinted at in the headline.

What I wrote was a joke to make fun of the Falcons, but since Pats fans aren't known for their sense of humor and everyone else is so resentful of the Pats that they're blinded by rage at them being good again...well, it was never going to land.

But it would be delightful if the ESPNs of the world would marvel at the level of suck it takes to achieve what the Falcons have achieved.

The last TD they scored put them up 24-6 over the Saints.

Since then, they've been outscored by a mere 87-6. They now have the same point differential as the Detroit Lions (still not as bad as the Jets or Texans, though). The way they avenged being defeated after blowing a 28-3 lead? Why, by losing by that exact point margin. Can't blow a huge lead if you never score points!

The parallels are exactly the type of thing sports broadcasting / writing tries to play up in a game. Patriots have the greatest Superbowl comeback of all time against the Falcons, scoring 25 unanswered points to tie it up. The very next time they meet the Patriots score 25 unanswered points. And what's more, Matt Ryan was sacked for huge losses in key moments of the game. Sports writers across the country were like, "Great! My article is writing itself tonight!" Just tell us why you're really upset: New England is still relevant in the NFL.

Ha, well now my last post seems dumb.

Atlanta has now gone 22 consecutive drives without scoring and have ended 1/3 of them by throwing interceptions.

All of their QBs have thrown interceptions in these drives, and opposing defenses and special teams defenses (so we're not going to count FGs) have outscored them (blocked punt TD, INT return TD).

Lions and Browns are teams. You need to pull a real Buffalo to get loser cred.

2021-11-19 8:00:41 AM
The Pats have only stopped 19 consecutive drives by comparison.

Speaking of 19...

Josh Rosen is now 2/11 for 19 yards and 2 INT as a Falcon, with one of those Insta being returned for a TD.

If we, in a modified stats system where we give QBs completions for INTs instead of incompletions, and give them negative yards for return yardage and negative TDs...

He's 4/11 for -30 yards and -1 TD on the season.

Of course, Felipe Franks threw an INT on HIS only pass of the season, so...

At least they have a bright future.

They lost to the Fins at Gillette. This is a difference in the standings for Division and Conference.

So, yeah, don't look at any "easy" wins this year.

The lunar eclipse last night lasted for 3 hours and 28 minutes. Even the moon hates the Falcons.

Since taking that 28-3 lead, the Falcons have been outscored by the Pats 79-7. Great 10 quarters of football there.

2021-11-19 10:40:04 AM
I had the game on in the background last night while doing other chores and saw a few times where Matt Ryan was getting sacked after ~ 1 second...felt kinda bad for him.

Heard they made their FG and then when I looked at the screen again, saw the Falcons lining up for the FGA again...was confused and was thinking to myself: "didn't they just score a FG?!  Am I in the matrix having a deja' vu moment?" then heard the Buck/Aikman talk about the illegal formation penalty.

/sad

Yeah, it has nothing to do with the winningest coach in NFL championship history notching another historical first in giving the Falcons their first shut-out home game in the 25 year history of their "new" stadium.  It's all about our feels.

It's historical in that it happened. It's not historical in that it's significant. Not sure why your bar went from winning the Owl all the way down to beating a bad team that's playing like shiat, (in their own stadium, no less! OMG!) but if you need to feel important go ahead and crow about this "historical" victory that football fans will be penning epic poetry about for decades to come.

Patriots have outscored the Falcons 79-7 in the 9+ quarters since 28-3. Thanks to two really bad losses to them in the 90s the Patriots still are -4 in the point differential all-time in the 16 games against them. (They are now 10-6 with 7 straight wins after a 1-6 stretch in the 80s and 90s.)

The Cowboys are plenty loathsome without winning. They're the Montreal Canadians of the NFL. Entitled bunch of biatches because they think only Texas does football right.
