The unthinkable happened. A Black man was President. Twice. All behavior rules were suspended, thereafter. Nothing is more important to Republicans than White Supremacy, and anything is permissible in the name of White Supremacy. That was always true, but on the down low, before Obama.

And then he said we'd "have to eat our peas."  Well, that was the last straw.

That was before we had a president that caused heart attacks. Ironic since not liking broccoli is not heart healthy, but the other president was an actual danger to heart health.

I only like broccoli if it's Chinese takeout beef & broccoli, or with salt and butter, which probably cancels out the health benefits.

Why do you think it tastes so good.  They took the healthiness out just leaving the flavor.

I think I recall something about some farmers bringing a huge shipment of broccoli to the White House in response.

Broccoflower is where it's at. I don't like the texture of broccoli or the taste of cauliflower, and it solves both problems...a little.

It's amazing to me that about a fifth of the world has caught COVID-19, with about 17m dead, and people still think it's a hoax or no big deal.  And when things start to get back to normal next year, due to the global vaccination effort and better treatments and smaller numbers of people left to infect, the naysayers will say see, told you it would go away on its own, as if they were right all along and not the sole reason things got so bad.

Broccoli, cauliflower, and eggs... All 3 of those are foods that I realized one day that all I do is put shiat on them to make it edible. I kinda said the same thing as Bush. Not that I was president, but I decided that I was an adult, and there was no reason to bend over backwards to eat foods that I don't like.

What does that have to do with Bush The Elder not liking broccoli?

I actually think it started with Clinton, the original "first black president".  The level of animus directed towards him and certainly his wife was unreal - hence the reason Toni Morrison gave Clinton that moniker in the first place.  At least the Obamas were spared being accused of having their friend murdered and drug running.

/He wasn't spared much more, though.

It's especially disheartening because COVID-19 can cause the loss of taste and smell which can result in far less enjoyable beef and broccoli dishes.

The point of that statement was to turn the newly-passed food disparagement laws into a joke about broccoli. They had the very unfunny effect of criminalizing investigation and journalism concerning any crop or food product specifying criminal and civil penalties that would bankrupt whistleblowers. Hog farms spreading nauseating smells and disease and poisoning groundwater for miles around? Shut up or be sued. GMO crops putting herbicide resistant genes into weeds through horizontal transfer or pollination (I'm looking at you, Brassicas!)? Shut up or go to jail.

Oprah Winfrey got a very serious lawsuit in Texas for saying unkind (although true) things about beef farming and processing practices. She prevailed, but it cost her millions. If she hadn't been a billionaire she would have been ruined.

Gotta go with Bush Sr. on this...

Doesn't matter who prepares it or how it's prepared; broccoli, asparagus, and Brussels Sprouts all taste rancid to me. Yes, even Brussles Sprouts sautéed in bacon and glazed with maple syrup. But I'm fine with other green veggies like zucchini, kale, and haricot verts. Got no idea why...

Leftover broccoli and cauliflower make an excellent base to stew imo, along with very finey diced onion and 3 different stocks (beef, chicken and veggie stock, yes that may be redundant). Then add the stew meat and your various spices and let it slow boil for most of the day, adding in potatos a few hours before serving (and then tasting an hour before serving to touch up the spicing when needed). 15 min before serving add 1 tablespoon of bisto and 3 spoons of cake flour to a bit of cold water, mix thoroughly, then add to the stew. Mix in and let it cook through for a bit. Damn good.
