Misogynistic? I thought it was just a tired and outdated joke at this point. She launched her career with break up songs, but she's mostly moved on from that in the last few years. Less breaky breaky and more shaky shaky.

Yeah...

I've read some of the things Scarlett has said about being married. I don't think she gets married with the intention of *staying* married. Not at all.

It's one of the luxuries of being rich and beautiful. You can get married just for fun and walk away when you get bored or annoyed.

He won't be the one breaking up with Scarlett, so his comment still stands.

Also, Scarlett isn't in the business of making breakup songs.

There was this one time where she flipped out and said the only reason she was getting teased for writing a song about seemingly every single past relationship she was ever in was because she's a woman. After all, a lot of god-tier artists like Johnny Cash wrote exactly one song each about a past relationship they were in, and they didn't get made fun of for it.

Let's be realistic. People aren't going to ever let good ammo for misogony go.

That said, it doesn't mean it isn't at least a little funny. Sometimes the very act of serving up a tired joke becomes it's own punchline.

The joke right now is that she just massively farked over her old record label that she "broke up" with a while back with a legal loophole deal that all but nuked them out of existence by allowing her to release "upgraded" versions of old songs the label was supposed to have retained the copyright to.  It was basically the overly-litigious-rich-american version of nuking the site from farking orbit, and it's what the whole (Taylor's Version) nonsense is about.

It's referencing the old jokes about all her best songs being breakup songs, but I wouldn't say it's the same joke, exactly.  More a... callback.

Also the "misogyny" thing isn't him sincerely saying it's misogynistic, it's a reference to a stupid comment that Swift herself made during one of her orchestrated public fits of pique, which was a meme at some point.  Or I suppose Taylor's Version of a meme that you now owe her 100% of the royalties for, as it were.

Not the copyright per se. The ownership of the Master tapes and product from them.  She owns the actual songs.

You've clearly got some resentment, digging at it as a nonsense loophole rather than a clever business move.

Bob Dylan wrote an entire album about the break-up of his marriage (Blood on the Tracks). So did Marvin Gaye (Here My Dear) and Bruce Springsteen (Tunnel of Love). That's more than just one song. Still, they did move on to write songs about other subjects afterward rather than go over their past relationships again and again.

On an unrelated by notable matter, Swift's song was over 10 minutes! The mean length for most singles today is around 3 minutes. This is like a throwback to the late 60s and 70s when if wasn't unusual for songs more than 5 minutes long to make the charts (e.g., "Like a Rolling Stone", "Light My Fire", "Hey Jude", "Layla", "Won't Get Fooled Again").

Know how I know you didn't watch the episode? Because you typed all of this nonsense out.

She sang a song she wrote about Jake Gyllenhaal for 10 minutes with a very theatrical video playing behind her the entire time.

She was angry while singing it and it was not up for debate about why and had dick all to do with her label.

I love how she's SO threatening to certain people, they can't separate out how clever a businesswoman she is from whether or not they like her music.  It's all shiate to these people, because annoying woman. Although they'll play games and won't admit that. If pushed, they'll tell you something like "you're not going to get to have sex with her", because heaven forbid anyone have any other reason to admire someone's savvy.

I personally think her music ranges from deeply mediocre up to a few clever songs later on (Blank Space is pretty clever, for example).  But I have to admire both her savvy and results.

I'll say it. "All Too Well" is a 10 minute run-on sentence. It's drab and it's boring.

Most other bands will put in more dynamics, a bit more operatic feel to a 7+ minute song. This is just 10 minutes of lyrics pouring out over 10 minutes of 4 chord structure melody. There's nothing to it. It's overrated.
