He doesn't like the idea of Italian mobsters. Which I guess means he prefers to ignore reality.

Imma let the 95-year-old legend have his opinion on it.

/add in his diagnosis and there's not really a "reality" to ignore
//find peace, amazing singing man

Comicbook fanbois are still butthurt by a statement Scorsese made in 2019?
It looks like simmering grudges are stored next to the xmas decorations in moms' basements (aka neckbeards HQ).

No. No they aren't.

The 78-year-old Scorsese has been a lightning rod controversy since he said superhero movies weren't cinema in 2019. The world hasn't been the same since.

Sure, but not because of his comments.  It's because there's been a pandemic, you f*ckwit writer.

It's a shame that all these comic book movies prevent us from seeing any stories that explore what motivates a man to turn to a life of crime.

Cool, I like old guys that don't have a stick up their ass about entertainment that delivers exactly what it promises without pretension.

Anything that gets on the screen is 'cinema', after that it is a matter of subclassification.

... nothing regarding Marvel or Disney was stated or even implied, either directly or indirectly, and it's farking weird that the AV club of all places would think that one comment several years ago the only relevance to entertainment media that Martin farking Scorsesecould possibly have, to the point that anyone addressing him in any way must necessarily be talking about that.

Like, that's a statement that even most comics fans didn't take as particularly significant at the time, for Christ's sake, most of the dialogue was one of those weirdly meta discussions about how farking stupid the mainstream media's reporting on minor Twitter spats was which accidentally kept the stupid coverage of the spat going because it caused it to keep trending without the mainstream idiots realizing why it was trending.

This was stupid and I feel stupider for having read this article.

Do the fark better, AV club.  You used to actually do real media analysis, this shiat you had your twelve-year-old niece shiat out while watching YouTube callout videos on an automated playlist or whatever the fark just makes me sad for what used to be a publication that was actually worth reading most of the time.

// Honestly Bennett's gripe seems pretty fair, if I felt closely tied to my Italian ancestry I could see my reaction to Scorsese's work being "why the fark every single Italian gotta be a criminal, a scumbag, or both in your movies, brah?" too.  I mean, I'm not Italian (in significant proportion) so my gripe is more "are you ever going to make an actual second movie instead of remaking the same basic script again over and over", but I see where the other complaint is coming from.

I'm pretty sure their headline was just a joke. An intentional one

Or the AV Club understands baiting for engagement.
