Huh.  Must be for the people who can't afford stone crab this season.

That is certainly one handsome crab.

So depressing. The divide between the haves and the have-nots is very well illustrated here. Ugh.

I vaguely recall reading somewhere that its customary at the first auction of a season for the first _______ to fetch a ridiculous sum. Like here, where the chef paid that as a thanks to the fisherman during 'rona times.

The day I pay $44000 for a crab is the day you can shoot me in the face.

This happens every year.  Some fishing cooperative auctions and bids on the catch.  It makes the news, gets people thinking about their product, and how valuable it is, and then suddenly $25 a pound magically doesn't seem to much to pay for a pound of meat.

It's advertising.  Yay?

right?

me, I'm still feeling hurt that in the before-times one of our favorite locales had snow crab every Monday, $35 AYCE (pro-person, obvs.) - $mai_waifu love-love-lurrrves her some snow/king/spider crab, full-stop. and, I mean, who doesn't? the cheapskate in me doesn't like overpaying for pre-cooked triple-something-aglides-injected nonsense, but she loves it, so I am more than happy to crack open every single leg for her.

but the hurt I feel is that we had never once tried it on. fark us sideways and all.

only consolation is that they been serving Beetlejuice-level banana boat song skrimps at an insane price
