(SoraNews24)   "There is poo" is not a warning to avoid stepping in it. Well, it is, but it is really a warning about what made the poo in the first place   (soranews24.com) divider line

Sounds as though a certain aphorism may be in need of an update.

Sounds like a life generality to me.

Son: "Why do I fail at things?"

Father: "There is poo, son. There is poo."  *shakes head in wise manner*

So...why isn't the message "There was bear poo?" Sine bear is the most relevant part of the whole thing.

As someone who lives in bear territory, being aware of their scat is indeed an important survival trait.

Japanese and American wilderness hobos need to team up and come up with some kind of international symbology. Kind of like Esperanto for the roamers

I would worry more about the creatures that fling poo, such as chimpanzees and Republicans.

I have a link to a video that somehow manages to be very funny, and involve both poo and Japan.

As someone who walks their dog in bear territory, being aware of their scat, and my dogs propensity to roll in it like it's some kind of magic super stuff is important.

I don't know what his problem is, but he gets hypnotized and dives in face first if I don't watch him close.

They can't just say, 'warning: bear in the area'?
They have to make a poop comment?

If you see a sign that says 'no-no cotton', does it mean there is a used panty vending machine nearby?

I guess I would suck as a tourist. I understood that as a bear warning without being able to read it.

I have an overgrown wisteria vine with roots that extend out around 500 yards, Kudzu on the other side that can't even be nuked from orbit effectively, and bear droppings.  I hope they're not symptoms of turning Japanese.

I really think so.

After all these years of not living in San Francisco, I can't claim to know much about bear behavior, but I do have an open question.

So... after my recent bear encounter during a late-night walk in a pitch dark forested area, I am kind of wondering if bears DO hibernate, what disturbs that or postpones it, etc. Some lady walking her dog at 1 am scared the bejeesus out of me last night. I don't know if the bears are supposed to gorge and then sleep for several months, or if they just wander around hungry until March or until they can feast on the goo in my cranium...

As far as poo goes, tanuki poo is my bane. Anything from a boar or bear means that tanuki are not hanging around, which is fine with me. Deer poo would mean ticks. Kamoshika poo means that my garden is compromised. I suppose bear poo could be a good sign to a lot of people.
