Good one, Subby! Best so far today.

FTA:  Magdalena Andersson was on Thursday unanimously elected as the new leader of Sweden's Social Democrats (SAP) party, paving the way for her to become the country's first female prime minister.  Her election in the position comes five months after SAP Prime Minister Stefan Lofven resigned after losing a vote of confidence in parliament.

Huh.  So do they have the naming rights to the arena where the San Jose Sharks play?

Vote for political issues and solutions. Don't vote for gender.

2021-11-08 11:40:21 AM
Interestingly, this is almost exactly 100 years after Sweden gave women the vote.

Do you mean EEKEA, subby?

Superglue and a nail gun can assemble a cabinet. Might work for politicians as well.

Now that is a headline.

GreenSun: Vote for political issues and solutions. Don't vote for gender.

People have been voting for gender. If they were voting purely for issues and solutions then it wouldn't have taken 100 years for Sweden to have a female PM.

ah yes, the "I don't see color" simpleton appears

voting for gender *is* voting for political issues and solutions ya dumdum, and the reason you don't think that is because some of the issues and desired solutions that are important to roughly 50% of the population have never been personally important to the gender that has held the position far more than 50% of the time

broadly speaking, women don't want women leaders because they're women, they want women leaders because women leaders have a personal stake in issues and policies that only or predominantly affect women

Voting for men isn't voting for gender - it is voting for issues.  Voting for women is voting for gender, not issues.  Or somesuch bullshiat, anyway.  Note that voting for a man that is gay, not albino, non-fundigelical, or who thinks any of the above are human beings is also voting for gender, not issues.  It's a language of many complexities.

For better or worse, politicians rarely go out of stock, so there's that.

It's the STATESMANN variety that is generally hard to find even online.

Actually women voters don't want women leaders.
I was involved in some voting process about a decade ago. After the dust settled I looked up the stats and crunched the numbers*, what I found was that even though the turnout was very, very close to 50-50 male/female, the end result was that the male candidates got a 2 to 1 ratio of votes compared to the female candidates.

The Social Democrats face much of the same issues that the Democrats in America do in that they're torn between appeasing the center left and the more progressive factions (which in Sweden's case are the Green and Left parties).
Without that compromise, it opens the door for the center right factions, led by the Moderate party, to come to power. Which, on its own, wouldn't be so horrible, but those craven opportunists have invited the far-right nationalists, the Sweden Democrats, into their fold. It's like when the GOP embraced the tea party. It transformed them into something much worse pretty quickly.

The GOP didn't embrace the Tea Party - they created it.  It was never a political party but a branding for anti-Democratic sloganeering.  All that happened was that the GOP found they could get traction prancing around spouting authentic frontier gibberish.  But there was no "take-over" because they were always the same thing
