Nobody died of Covid in Florida either. However, several people died of completely spontaneous non-Covid related pneumonia.

Are we though? I mean, it's mentally disturbed conservative voters removing themselves from society.

I'll wear masks for another 8 years and take booster shoots every 6 months while I outlive them. It's worth it.

I did see one doofus in the video with the mask down below his nose, but still, it's impressive how seriously they take public health.  As long as anti-vaxxer conservatives walk the earth, the U.S. will never, ever, again have a day with no COVID deaths.

If an antivaxer gets cancer I wonder if they'd deny themselves experimental treatment based on the same criteria they used for Covid.  I'm going with no.

There were no deaths reported today in my State either.  Government doesn't do work on the weekends.

The vaccines work, masking works (and I'm pretty sure Japan was using something akin to KF94s, which are way better than the standard flu mask), and I'm pretty sure they passed proper funding so people didn't have to work unnecessary jobs. The result? Either nobody dies or very few do, because basic farking plague protocol WORKS. Yes, even in places like Tokyo, which has an even higher population density than NYC, so social distancing is highly limited.

The US is wealthier than Japan, waaaaay more spread out (so social distancing works better in more places), and was one of the last countries to get hit, so we SHOULD have Japan's or South Korea's numbers at this point, and really, from the beginning. We had plenty of time to mass-produce masks (and a law that could be invoked to force factories to make them with reasonable compensation for doing so), plenty of time to pass legislation to let people stay home from work (no, $2400 in a freaking year is not going to do that), plenty of time to get testing and tracing set up en masse...

...and then when we failed miserably at basically all of the above, we were the first nation to have enough vaccine for every citizen - THREE different vaccines, in fact, and a mass mandatory vax campaign followed by a brief lockdown with compensation at that point could've dropped us to SK levels in weeks, but instead we allow rampant, obvious, and fatal misinformation to flourish, and we kept everything open like the plague just magically ends the second a clinic opens near you.

For most countries, barring another mutation as nasty as delta was, this plague is winding down, and will probably be basically gone by spring. For us? Well, eventually, as less population exists for variants to spawn, as -most- of the populace gets vaxxed, and as the idiots eventually all get hit by delta, it'll end... eventually, and probably with a final body count of over 1 million. For anyone who says RWNJ media isn't harmful, THIS is what it does when it truly matters.

Doing that outside is not a big deal, it's when that person walks indoors and doesn't pull the mask up is where the problem starts.

Not a whole lotta people in Japan willing to intentionally harm themselves and their families on the off chance that doing so might hurt the feelings of the Ainu or the Korean diaspora or the Ryukyu or any other minorities or of people who support the civil rights of minorities.

Certainly not enough of them in the upper echelon of the national government or prefectural governments to even think about letting the plague rats get a foot in the door. And no Fox News either, except on AFN.

I think they'll be fine. They just gotta keep on keeping on.

Their arguments are not real arguments. It's all lies. Some people believe some of them, sort of, but mostly they're just throwing sh*t at the wall. Any argument you tear down will be replace with another. And another. And another.

They don't want to get the shot because that's what liberals want. That's it. They're not going to do it unless we force them or otherwise coerce them hard enough.

I'm on your side on this. While someone doing the stupid nose thing outside isn't really being all that reckless, they're still being a jerk. Either wear it right, or take it off. The last thing we need is to normalize that idiotic practice further.

We've had less than 2 years of it so far, give it time.  At this point *everyone* is going to get Covid-19.  The big question is whether you get your vaccine before the virus, and how many comorbities you have, and if you will recover, die, or become a "long hauler".

.18% of the US is dead (from reported Covid deaths).  Very few elections are swayed by a .18% of the population, even if there are 10 times as many "pneumonia" deaths in certain states.

They did this because Robert Kennedy, a known dead man they aren't even politically aligned with, failed to appear and give a speech.

"CDC Data Show Flu Vaccination Rates Are Lower In Black And Hispanic Americans"

"Flu vaccination rates are lower in Black and Hispanic people, according to CDC data. For the 2019-2020 season, flu vaccination coverage was 53% among White people, 41% among Black people, and 38% among Hispanic or Latino people. People of color also have higher rates of severe illness, hospitalization, and death from the flu."

I've had Covid, been vaccinated and will get the booster as soon as eligible.  After this past weeks events it's obvious your broad brush isn't working so well. But please proceed! You may be irrelevant after the next election.

Come back in two weeks when the Halloween spike kicks in.

It'll be a blip compared to the Christmas spike though. It hopefully won't be as bad as last year but these are dynamic numbers.

That's nothing, Romania just hit 3500 in one day. And they only have 19 mill. inhabitants. That's 50% more than Denmark has had in total.

They're pretty farked right now. That's like, everyone will be dead in 3 years numbers.

trerro: and I'm pretty sure they passed proper funding so people didn't have to work unnecessary jobs.

Not exactly, but kinda. I got almost three times as much cash from the US government as I did from the Japanese. However, and this is the important bit, for the one month I was not allowed to work, I still got paid 60% of my salary, and a few months later when my company got their stimulus money, they paid me the remaining 40%.

And yes, you read that correctly, I was only off for one month. My company didn't even switch me to WFH, though most of the rest of the company was. I'm as non-essential as they come (in-house subcontracted English teacher for a logistics software company). That said, the working conditions were extremely regulated: distancing, barriers, air flow, masks, sterilizer, temp checks, etc.

Nearly everyone I know was only off work for a month or less, if at all. My wife (data entry) didn't get any temporary shutdown time off, nor was she switched to WFH, but she did get sent home for a few days when a worker on her team caught covid.

In my experience, it was mostly business as usual in Japan during the pandemic, though there were just lots of changes to the work environment and a half-hearted adoption of WFH.

Yeah but if we were the size of Japan only 350 people a day would die.

So we need to Herman Cain ourselves down a bit to get those numbers to shrink.

It might take killing off the whole planet, but it'll happen some day
