(Wikipedia)   So I just watched The Sparks Brothers. The Mrs and I remain unconvinced this band exists. We are gen X and huge music aficionados of that era   (en.wikipedia.org) divider line

It's understandable that you might have missed out on an influential band, no matter how much of a musical aficionado you may be. That happens. What isn't understandable is that you're a member of GenX who is incapable of using Google. Hell, a trip to eBay shows Sparks albums going back to the mid 70s. That's a helluva conspiracy!

To be fair to subby, they aren't Gen X. That's stuff like Nirvana and Pearl Jam.

I think a certain Farker would describe them as SoCal New Wave.

I have two of their albums from the 70s.

And they're on YouTube:

The last time I saw them perform was when I was in college, and they did a free concert in a parking lot across from the AAA building in downtown L.A. That was back in the fall of 1982; they were very popular then because their songs received a lot of airplay on local radio station KROQ.

I hope to see them at Disney Hall early next year. Haven't bought a ticket yet.

I remember watching Rollercoaster for the first time last year and thinking the band in it was either made up for the movie or just a local band that never did anything else.

I grew up listening to a ton of 70s rock and somehow never came across them.  I blame radio DJs of the 80s and 90s.  Instead of playing this, they were busy playing the same few dozen songs by Boston or Zeppelin 24/7.

Age wise they are Boomers but their music crossed over into Gen X.  I first heard the song I posted in the movie Valley Girl. This is also the movie I became aware of Deborah Foreman's existence.  So many dead kittens.

Same here: First heard Sparks, saw Deborah Foreman, learned who Colleen Camp was (I love her, too), and no matter what anyone says about Nic Cage, I liked him in Valley Girl
