The truth is still the truth, even if no one believes it. A lie is still a lie, even if everyone believes it.

I think conservatives think that if they keep their reality, and try to force it on others, it will become the truth.

Life and the universe don't work that way. The truth will always prevail.

This is the Trumpers position on most things, since they're so farking stupid.

Also, like I've said for awhile now, stupid people can fark us just as surely as supposedly competent evil can. Theoretically, stupid is even worse.

Competently evil people usually have a sense of self-preservation, which often keeps them (not always, obviously) from carrying out their most ridiculously evil plans.

Stupid people, on the other hand, always think they're right and their plan can't possibly fail, so there is no plan so farking stupid they won't ride that biatch right over the cliff, babbling about how awesome it is all the way down.

only white people would read 'Critical Race Theory' and be upset about the title without having read the text of the theory. well, white republicans at least.

which should pretty much lead everyone to agree that CRT should be taught, to everyone, ASAP, before the whites are so offended that they kill us all!

"Idaho banned any teaching that "individuals, by virtue of sex, race, ethnicity, religion, color, or national origin, are inherently responsible for actions committed in the past by other members of the same sex, race, ethnicity, religion, color, or national origin.""

I'm going to hell because I am pretty sure I agree with this.

I know I want teachers to teach that little Abdul is not responsible for 911, Nguyen isn't responsible for torturing prisoners, Helga isn't the one who dissected living children, Cooter didn't own slaves and Susie didn't give out smallpox blankets. That's a good starting point for actually dealing with the nastier bits of history.

Of course these guys just want to make sure the nastier bits of history don't get taught.

2021-11-02 6:58:48 PM
Critical race theory means anything that threatens what these people, largely white people, see as their place in society and history.

That's it.  They want to feel like they are the ancestors of Pilgrims who were taught how to grow corn by kindly Indians. They don't want to feel like they are the ancestors of people who committed genocide against those Indians.

They want to feel like they are the ancestors of people who fought against the tyranny of King George, but please disregard the unresolved question of slavery at the time.

They want to feel like they've earned all they have and worked hard to get it, not that they have ever benefited in some way from a system rigged in their favor.

Once you understand the resistance to CRT is really about resistance to questioning their social and historical.self view then you understand it

2021-11-02 7:01:10 PM
"But, what does CRT actually mean? Well, those same voters appear to struggle with answering that question."

Given major news outlets, and this article is no exception, are trying to pretend the "CRT" protests are about the academic grad school level legal theory rather than coded language about trying to force schools to either teach "both sides" of slavery or the Holocaust or to scrub these topics from their curriculum entirely I'm not surprised people are stumped when asked to answer the question.

Yeah, that's the problem--this restriction is being made in bad faith, and it will absolutely be used to censor education about racism.

Dear CNN:

When comedy shows ask more insightful questions than news organizations, it might be time to rethink your branding.

How about Comedy, Not News.

Wait, I think a web site already has that catch phrase, or something quite similar. You may be familiar with it. It's the web site that you forbade using your logo to mark links that point to your web site.

Well anyway, to paraphrase Upton Sinclair:

It is difficult to get a corporation to understand something when its profitability depends upon not understanding it.

Sincerely,
Mr. Lawn

This is all completely correct. America, as a nation, is steeped in it own mythology. And CRT does a lot to tear away that mythology and expose the ugly truth about this nation's founding, its past, and just how ingrained racism is in our society. They would destroy the entire educational system just to ensure that the drapes of a sanitized mythology aren't taken down to expose the grotesque truth.

Because American news networks are mainly gossip mills for out-of-touch or behind-the-times politicians and pundits.

If you're actually looking to be informed, you need to look outside America at sources like Deutsche Welle, The Guardian, or the BBC. They're not perfect, but they're much, much better than those big three news networks.

There are more than a few people who think it's taught in every grade at some level.

Bill Maher said he wouldn't be okay with CRT if it taught 5 year-olds that they are oppressors and Caitlin Flanagan said that is exactly what schools are teaching.

Instead we have conservative media -- and politicians -- erroneously suggesting that CRT teaches White kids they are bad and to blame for the racial problems in the country.

It's not erroneous, its intentional.

It's all about keep the base in fear and in line. And sadly it seems to be working.

My opinion of humanity has been pretty low lately.
