Obvious answer, web developers and managers like to be paid and not short sheeted by the sponsors.
Is it a surprise to any Farker that the GQP has a well earned history of not paying their bills?

Because they are designed to be. The entire rightwing economy is driven by grift and theft.

It's not a bug, it's a feature.

Why are they all so bad at this?

Because a core element of being a modern Republican is being incompetent and doing everything you can to cover that up.  There is no room for incompetence in the world of internet security.

They just take brand maintenance more seriously than those on the left.

Admit it, if you were putting up a site for GQP, you would make sure it was buggy.
Black hats would just for fun.
Whites would because it is for GQP.
Grays because, well just because.

Also this.

And good security costs money, and proper Republican types look at that as an expenditure they can't stomach, along with redundant systems and backups and surge capacity and so on so they just don't do it, which leads to their stuff failing hard.

And also, the sorts of people who are proper, competent systems administrators and developers tend to be the sorts of weird liberal types who loathe pretty much everything going on in the right-wing movement outside of second amendment stuff and some of the cryptography stuff.

Everyone I've met IRL or online who has been a proper BOFH type has either been weird, had some kind of kink, or otherwise been rather far outside the sorts of "traditional family values" that the GQP enshrines.

I'm not sure I'd bother wanting to hack things like this. Especially when you can just scam and grift a userbase that has already self selected as being primed for scams and grifts

The US mint has approved a limited time printing of "the 45" a gold plated pure silver coin featuring the likeness of our 45th and most memorable president. As these pressings are limited, historically the value of these items increases. Hurry while supplies last one payment of $69 or three installments of $29.99

I do believe the answer might be embedded in this little snippet:

Gab CEO Andrew Torba declined to comment on security and privacy guardrails Gab implements, noting in an email, "We only do interviews with Christian media outlets and therefore we have no comment for The Daily Demon." Gettr, Parler, and Truth Social did not return requests to comment.

They're certainly not going to talk to some Chinese guy whose online handle is teknoskweez666, even if he tells them, "Hey, you've got every security issue since they first started banging rocks together." No, their god will keep their intertubes safe.

All of these attempts at conservative social media want to:

1. Be like Twitter.
2. Also not be Twitter.
3. Not censor Nazis and Klansmen.
4. Have the right to censor anyone they don't like, such as people who think the platform sucks.
5. Develop their software on a shoestring budget in a matter of months using whatever pre-existing tools they can get their hands on.
6. Announce to the entire world as soon as humanly possible that they're going to unseat Twitter and Facebook, and - this is the important part - do so before they've finished even rudimentary closed load testing or pen testing.

This guarantees that the site is going to be populated entirely by either Nazis and Klansmen who want to be there, alongside trolls and hackers that want the site to crash and burn. Anyone not in those two groups who wants a Twitter-like platform will stay on Twitter.

Short answer: Because GOP social media users are dumb
Medium answer: Because GOP social media users AND GOP social media developers are dumb
Betteridge's answer: Because GOP social media users are dumb but also GOP developers make the same mistakes over & over again which can't be adequately explained by laziness or lack of talent because if they were going to nick code, it's easier to find code that doesn't have these flaws. Does that mean they're deliberately introducing these flaws so that their criminal allies can exploit them?

(my guess, as suggested by Betteridge above, is no. More likely whoever's funding them is making demands of how the code must work because they're idiots, & the developers aren't getting paid enough to solve the problems that those requirements introduce unless they write code & they're only being paid enough to steal code)

Yeah, it's because Republicans are cheap and dumb and greedy.

But...even if they were NOT all of those things, they'd probably still be screwed. Running security on a social media platform is *incredibly hard*.  Hell, just running security on a popular website in general is hard. Like, so hard that practically no one does it properly. Only the VERY biggest and well-funded websites have proper security. The rest of the sites more-or-less just hope they don't get hacked. I mean, they do what they can, but if you don't have millions to throw at a full-time security team, then you can't keep up.

Dealt with a few of these types back when I was doing freelance consulting. After talking with you, and getting a price they think is unreasonable, they decide to go with their cousin/friend/acquaintance from the local watering hole.

That person runs a small business that does something like sells/supports ERP software to SMBs, so they are (in the mind of the buyer) experts at all things computers. In reality they have experience with some vertical market software and the next-to-last version of Windows Server.

Since they don't know shiat about Linux servers, Open Source, Web App APIs, or mobile development--not to mention security or modern cloud operations, they outsource part of it to LCD overseas contractors, and the other part of it to their nephew Billy, who just completed a 14 week coding boot camp.

Then later they come back looking for your help to dig them out. You briefly consider doubling your hourly rate, then realize you'd actually need to triple or quadruple it to cover all the legal costs you'd incur by dealing with those morons. Then decide life is too short.

If only my parents had raised me to be more evil, I could have grifted the fark out of these jerks, and retired early to a sunny beach somewhere.
