I'll have you know that I myself am descended from a long line of dead people. Curiously, on both my mother's and father's sides of the family.

Looks like it lived in an environment only reachable with jungle-canyon rope-bridges and infested with pirate zombies.

We are in the long, boring period between having non-human hominids around, and having non-human aliens around.

I try to read up on these things from time to time, but while I knew about the Neanderthal stuff I didn't know about the interbreeding with Denisovans.  Now there's a third group?

I'm OK with the repeat.  Apparently the news didn't get through the first few times.

It is astonishing how many abandoned facilities he runs. He's probably one of the regulars that shows up at foreclosure auctions.

"A version of this article was originally published in February 2019."

I should get a job writing for Science Alert.  Seems easy.

That's when the aliens introduced whatever the fark is so wrong with us.

Humans make a lot more sense if you accept that we're a product of evolution.  Whatever worked to produce the most humans eventually takes over the population, and the random changes that appear to be selected from have to A) use parts that already exist (a mutation won't build a new limb or organ from scratch) and B) just have to be good enough, not ideal.

Mix that up with competition at every conceivable level and you get a bunch of angry apes flinging shiat at each other.  It's honestly amazing we managed to keep building larger and larger cooperative groups instead of just killing anyone we didn't recognize as part of our family.

Nah, it was the aliens. They stopped us before we could be a threat.

this is a rather racist statement

> "About 80,000 years ago, the so-called Out of Africa occurred, when part of the human population, which already consisted of modern humans, abandoned the African continent and migrated to other continents, giving rise to all the current populations", explained evolutionary biologist Jaume Bertranpetit

That is if you don't count all the current populations of  modern humans living in Africa. I've read that there is more human diversity inside Africa than in the rest of the world. I've also read there is genetic evidence some  humans migrated back to Africa but Africa would still be more divers without that.

The Denisovans came out a few months after the Neandertals results were announced.  Within a few years it was noted that the Denisovans had evidence of introgression from an unknown group that many speculate was Homo erectus. Then it was noticed that African populations also had introgression from an unknown group. Both were proposed at least eight years ago.

This chart is from a top researcher's bog in 2013:
