I think that part was already covered under, "She's the bloody Queen of England, mate" plus too many other areas to list.

A lot of widows perish shortly after their spouses.

She's led a remarkable life - I genuinely would not be surprised if she kicks this and lives another 10 years.

I had read that Charles was considering abdicating to William, though it would be good to be the king for a short while since he's been primed for that role from birth. It would be really hard to pass that up.

Don't tell anyone I said this...but the code phrase is London Bridge Has Fallen.

Once she dies I think the rest in line are a bunch of asses.
Too bad they don't all start to abdicate until someone who would look good on a coin and isn't a classist, racist ass would take their place.

I sorta was hoping she'd outlive her kid. he's not really fit for it.

I dont think William is that bad. He seems like he has a good head on his shoulders.  I think he got that from his mother.

It's very easy to snark about Betty Windsor, but she has done that job for 69 years without a break.  During that time she has seen 14 US presidents come and go.

Yes, of course she is stupidly rich, has thousands of minions and houses everywhere, but she has provided consistency and stability for the UK when the flake-and-bake politicians turn everything into a shiat-show.  She's 95, and if she makes it to next year she will celebrate 70 years a Monarch.

Snark all you like, but it takes a bit more than being an ITG to demonstrate that level of commitment to a job.

Charles becomes king immediately upon the death of QEII. All the rest is just going through the motions for the little people.

The issue would be if Chuck wants a coronation ceremony or not. Edward VIII was king for almost a year before abdicating, and never had the coronation ceremony. Chuck could play king for awhile, then abdicate to William, with his coronation ceremony already planned and invitations sent out.

That makes the most sense from a financial standpoint. Would look bad (IMHO) if Chuck does all the ceremonies, then abdicates, because Will would have to repeat the same ceremonies, and that doubles the cost. Bad optics during the pandemic, and Chuck would be remembered for wasting the money.

So, 6 months to a year as king, while they get Will's reign planned out. Part of that wait certainly depends on the pandemic because you don't want a lot of plague rats in Westminster Cathedral for the coronation, nor do you want huge crowds of plague rats waiting along the coronation route.

One American who's read and listened to a lot British and English history's two cents... Charles will get a year out of respect for his mother but he really needs to walk right.  Don't insist on any specific title(s) for Camilla, don't even mention any sort of title for her kids, and unless an appearance has to be handled by him specifically- give it to Will and Kate.  The monarchy has endured some dark people and decades and if Charles is seen as efficient and inoffensive he should be fine.

I have a feeling he's gonna pass the hat to William.
The Firm/Crown/Palace think William and Kate to be the ideal King and Queen that practically no one has any real issues with.
Charles is seriously damaged goods, has never wanted the job or the spotlight, and is very pleased with both William and Kate's keen sense of decorum and newly cemented devotion to duty.

Whoever takes the crown through - William or Charles - neither one of them are Andrew fans, so he'll likely be kicked clean to the curb and into the waiting arms of the law the very day his Queen mummy dies.

Camilla's children with Andrew Parker-Bowles aren't entitled to any kind of title, so there's no chance anyone will make any request for them. Camilla is legally the Princess of Wales but uses a lesser title out of respect. Which is fine. However, once Charles is king, she's legally Queen Camilla unless Parliament passes a law that says otherwise. There is no secondary title she can hold...unless Parliament passes a law that says otherwise.

All the Diana humpers need to get over it. She died in a horrific car accident a quarter-century ago, and she and Charles were well divorced by that point. Camilla is his wife now, and she's entitled to all the styles and titular dignities that his wife should have.
