The moment you prove that Brooklyn is actually a part of Long Island....

Yuck. They replicated that eyesore on Park Avenue.

On the plus side, now there are more luxury units for Russian oligarchs to launder their money and never set foot inside.

I thought the food in Brooklyn was generally superior to the food in Manhattan when I was living at Metrotech and in Brooklyn Heights

The only people who think the food in Manhattan is good are stupid tourists and business people. Everyone knows the real food scenes are in Queens and Brooklyn. Flushing might have the best collection of East Asian eateries in the hemisphere.

Let's see, tons of companies are letting employees work from home, there's a lot of free office space... exactly why did they build this?

For starters you can't easily convert office space to residential. I mean you can if you throw money at it, but the buildings are built for different reasons, and optimize different aspects.

Your major cities will still be hubs for people. I love working at home. I miss going into the office or meeting with people in person a few times a week at least. I miss regularly being in the city and all that comes with it.

I mean, I know this is just one city in one state, but this is happening all across the US. Commercial spaces which aren't rentable are being changed into residences in MASSIVE numbers.

also under construction since 2018

converting office space to residential is insanely expensive do to changing the plumbing in existing concrete floors

/unless you're good with the bathrooms being next to the elevator

Juniors is just around the corner from this place for all of your cheesecake needs.

I hope they preserved some of the features of the old bank inside, they would often have film crews in there. It was in season 2 of Marvelous Mrs Maisel.

550 mfd units. That's it? Love to hear what one of the "affordable" housing units go for. Just... would like to hear some more specs without people braying about the skyline.

I didn't say you couldn't do it, i just said its really farking expensive in most cases, both to retrofit, and for floor space you use to accommodate retrofitting stuff vs building new. if you have an awesome location, a historical or significant building that lends itself as a selling point, or that you simply can't tear down, things are different.  But your utilities in an office building aren't set up for residential. Your elevators aren't. mechanical spaces aren't, etc.

I spent a number of post-bar crawl nights at Juniors.  French onion soup(with rye instead of french bread) and a slice of cheesecake is a great late night meal

I used to like that place, but it's gone downhill in recent years. Decor is faded, food is bland. I took my Russian parents there on their last trip to NYC, and they were thoroughly underwhelmed.

The Russian Vodka Room is where it's at. The 'salo' on black bread is to die for, especially when you've been drinking all night.

Also, saying Brooklyn doesn't have a food scene is like saying Boston is not a big college town.

Thats less egregious than the other two. At least it's in lower Manhattan.

Everything north of 14th street is Upstate.
