This is the reason Dems must hold to the promise to the American people and until BBB passes the Senate the lobbyist written infrastructure bill can't be passed in the House.

2021-10-28 12:09:18 PM
The problem is the clock is ticking for reconciliation in 2021. We either use it or lose it. Infrastructure has at least until the end of 2022 (assuming no Dem dies in Congress).

2021-10-28 12:48:32 PM
Yes, we know, you want one to pass and the other to fail. That's why it's been said from day 1 that the infrastructure plan won't pass until BBB does.

That's the carrot for negotiating.

They want money going into their pockets. Not out of their pockets.

If anybody needs any proof on why BIF should be voted down...

2021-10-28 2:09:53 PM
If the moneyed interested are begging people to push something through, that's a sign that that thing only benefits them and nobody else.

Torch it. Start fresh. Maybe the conservative Dems can be less sh*tty this time. Fat chance, though.

Holding hostage to a Trillion dollar bi-partisan bill which is greatly needed for something which doesn't even exist yet...only a 'framework'...no text, no bill, no idea about anything, Sums up democrats.

Lucy pins the football again?

Yeah, they want a pared down list of their priorities only now and then will heel drag and eventually kill any progressive bills that pop up.

Seen this scene before and the ending always sucks

Pelosi putting BIF on the floor today and holding it open.  Says she wants to let Brandon go to the EU with good news.  Jayapal saying not enough votes to pass.  McCarthy saying ain't no help from his side.

The infrastructure bill has been sitting there for what, like a month or two?

What is this "rush" Subby is talking about?

The current version of the reconciliation bill is how many hours old?

Gottheimer needs to be stuffed all the way up Lieberman's anus and then stuff both of them up Joe Manchin's anus while Sinema is folded inside out to wrap it all up.

It would be an interesting power move. "We agreed that it would be both bills or nothing. It appears that Manchin, Sinema and the GQP prefer 'nothing', so there ya go."

/Not saying it would be a good idea, or that it's likely, but it would be interesting.
//We all know the GQP would prefer 'nothing' anyway. It would fark over a lot of poor people AND help their chances in '22, so it's doubly appealing to them.

No one reads bills. They just vote on them.

I'm starting to tire of hearing about this two bills.  I'm pretty sure that something very similar to Manchin's proposal ( https://static.politico.com/1e/ef/159cabd547868585f9b1a8f06388/july-28-2021.pdf ) plus the bipartisan infrastructure plan will pass in the end.  The only real question is whether or not Sinema will sign on; Manchin's is a yes (on his terms; see above).

Huh?
Biden has been touring red states and meeting with local and state officials on both sides to push the bill.  It's extremely popular both among voters and state officials across the country. It's not popular with two people, who are opposed to this: Manchin and Sinema.
We as a species are in serious danger if we don't pass this agenda, especially the deep south like TX, LA, and FL.
Details on what is in the agenda are widely available at different levels of detail.
It's a pro-labor which will greatly benefit the bottom 99% of Americans.  The top 0.1% wouldn't even notice a 40% tax rate, it would have no impact on their lifestyle, plans, or really anything (the reconciliation tax increase is tiny).
We as a society have chosen to maintain de facto negative taxes on the ultra-wealthy, keep emitting increasing amounts of climate changing pollution, and suppress labor rights.
/Mission accomplished.

If this deal goes thru, Dems will have passed nearly $5T in domestic programs (ARP, BIF, BBB) in the ten months since their surprise victories in Georgia. And all with a tenuous 50 seat majority. Pretty wild.

The Build Back Better framework from the White House would temporarily plug the two biggest holes in the ACA:
1. Increased premium help for people who buy their own insurance.
2. Coverage for 2.2 million poor uninsured people in the 12 states that have not expanded Medicaid.

The fact that Sinema and Manchin are still at "we want the infrastructure bill passes without delay, we promise you that we are acting in good faith, but we refuse to say we will actually vote for the reconciliation bill we just negotiated until you pass infrastructure first" means the rest of this week is likely going to be clown car shiat.

Better a few happy meals than nothing at all. Sure, people are starving and suffering but if they eat a happy meal this year and nothing else, they'll be motivated to vote straight-ticket Democrat next year, provided they aren't dead by starvation by then.

Great example of what the universal pre-k provision in the reconciliation bill would accomplish: 1 in 23 children in Alabama experience homelessness before age 6. Only 3% currently have access to federally-funded early childhood education.

Neither Sinema nor Manchin are acting in good faith, but neither is Pelosi or Schumer. If they were going to act in good faith, the screws would be turning on the two Democratic holdouts... but right now all we have are meek mewling into the void asking about what they want. And don't tell me they can't turn the screws; after all Biden is president despite losing a bunch of primaries.

At this point I wonder if this isn't just a giant Kabuki to squash the priorities that Biden "campaigned on" but didn't actually want in the first place; turning the screws further on those that supported Bernie and his priorities.

This way they get to do it without leaving fingerprints.

/But that would be a cynical take, wouldn't it...

Oof. The Means testing starts at 100% state median income on pre-k for the rollout, goes up to 250% for last 2 years of the program, right before it expires.

I don't know how the Democratic Party expects to hold on to what gains they've made when it looks like what they'll give the voters is so cut down from what people need that it's essentially nothing.

Like I never expected Biden to do miracles but I thought he'd stop the bleeding at least. You can't even put all this at the feet of the crimson chin and Sierra entertainment, there's tools he could use, he's choosing not to.

Unless there's some kind of pushback these just feel like intermission years before another lunatic gets in the White House.
