You'd think some of these pro-life people would at least be in favor of giving paid maternity leave for all these babies they want born.

The Build Back Better Plan:

No building, we wallow in our own filth until the planet kills us off in a violent act of self-preservation.

2021-10-27 9:01:34 PM

the unabomber was right: You'd think some of these pro-life people would at least be in favor of giving paid maternity leave for all these babies they want born.

I guess they want expensive child care so they have an excuse to move in with their kids when the grandkids are born.

Those "pro-life" people were demanding everyone go back to work a week into the pandemic.

When you remember the actual goal is feudalism, everything they do makes sense.

In b4 a 'progressive' says they'd rather have nothing than something

2021-10-27 9:06:32 PM
Holy shiat maybe they'll pass a package that has majority support, such as it is. Maybe even think about getting more democrats elected next time.

I'D RATHER HAVE NOTHING THAN SOMETH-

oh, damn. nvm.

GOP, Party  over country .. I'd say they have shiat for brains  but that would be an improvement ..

2021-10-27 9:09:15 PM
It's difficult to make an "In b4" joke about someone blaming progressives for this utter failure to get their own agenda through a Democratically controlled House and Senate when its the fourth comment in the thread.

2021-10-27 9:10:25 PM
If only the Progressives had successfully primaried Manchin. Why are they such losers?

2021-10-27 9:10:42 PM
This is disgusting and the entire Democratic Party should be ashamed and embarrassed that this is what it comes to.

Democrats need to - not should, but need to - tell Manchin and Sinema to suck it, put the entire $3.5T bill up for a vote, and say "you think there's pressure on you now, you think people hate you now? Go ahead and vote no. I dare you. See what happens then."

Call their bluff and let the public make up their minds.

2021-10-27 9:11:09 PM
Since this is dragging on and on with no end in sight, and $6T has now dwindled down to $1.75T (and sinking), I say fark it. Kill the BIF, too. The system is too far gone, and Dems can't/won't save us from fascism. We live in interesting times.

2021-10-27 9:11:47 PM
The only thing that will end up getting passed is the Universal Pre-K because the employers want the workers back in the mines and only if the workers are the ones paying for it.

2021-10-27 9:11:51 PM
Okay, so progressives, get more of you elected in 2022 and neuter Mansinema

You want New Deal level reforms, you need New Deal level majorities. Having a literal tie in the senate doesn't cut it.

You want more, you need to get more of yourselves into office.

The true core of all anti-abortion proponents is hating women. Maternity leave is completely antithetical to their world view.

Just mandate the leave and make the employee and employer pay for it the same way we pay towards unemployment insurance. Why does this have to be a concern about costs for the government?

It is fascinating that they decided to put the bill into a spreadsheet and hit "sort by public approval" for each policy point and started cutting from the top when they make these demands.

The only way to do that is to re-distribute liberals out of their blue-concentrated states, and into purple and red states to outvote the Trumpers. You surely don't think Trumpers are going to miraculously change their minds and become liberals, do you?

We are $29T in debt. We can't really afford nice things. The sooner you get used to fewer services and higher taxes the better. Just hope that most of those taxes are on the rich.

This and next year's reconciliation bill are our only shots to get anything done in the Biden presidency.

The rentier class wants feudalism. Because fark you, that's why.

Conservative voters want women, gays, brown people, and non-Christians to lick their boots. They don't think the feudal leopards will eat their faces.

Those are the two motivations. The only two.

Does this belt-tightening apply to the $7.5T of defense spending over the next 10 years? Or just single mothers trying to make rent and feed their kids?

They haven't really pushed to eliminate the mayor's position recently... they just have tried to put the incumbent back on the ballot and when that failed are handing out stamps to voters at the door to allow them to stamp his name as a write-in candidate.

So here's the thing with that. When we needed the New Deal, conservatives couldn't outspend liberals 10:1 for campaigning and didn't own every radio station, magazine, and newspaper. They also didn't have nearly as many churches pushing their agenda in those days.

Until Bloomberg delivers on his promise and finds a dozen friends, Democrats will constantly be arriving at the fight unarmed and exhausted.

Don't sign it.
Don't negotiate with hostage takers.
Don't negotiate with economic terrorists.
Don't negotiate with democracy usurpers.
Don't sign it.

Campaign on it.
Run hard against fascist take overs and anti-maskers.
Run on improving peoples lives economically.
Run on the economy being gambled on by republicans who refuse to lift a finger to help you, me, us, as a nation tk protect the 1% who have done nothing but profit off of Americans who have been forced to work their low paying jobs, at the expense of our health, our children, our families and home lives.

You will regret signing a pithy "fark you" spending bill that addresses nothing. As you have suddenly stripped people of their will to vote, and politicians proud of negotiating with themselves to give you less, while they give away another trillion in bridges and highways and high speed internet that will make Jeff Bezos even richer. That will make Mark Zuckerberg even more controlling of what he distributes and disseminates.

I'm begging you to have faith and conviction/

Look on the bright side: when McConnell is majority leader Breyer will finally retire to finally fix bipartisanship and prove that Republicans will totally allow Biden to nominate a Supreme Court justice.

I dont disagree with you.  But the problem is that if they dont pass this, even at a lower rate, and we have no stimulus, then things will continue to suck, if not more, and stupid people will say "The Democrats did this, and the immigrants, and the minorities...lets bring Trump and the fascists back..." And at that point we are done.  We have to turn things towards the better, even if incrementally.

But yes, continue the campaigning on this.  Continue hammering Republicans.

Democrats really did just order pizza and $15 Amazon gift cards for working class America rather than fix any actual problems, didn't they?

Really channeling that "clueless middle manager" energy.

Interesting about Manchin, he's a conservative like any other except unlike Republicans he can support a Democrat-sponsored bill.

If the Medicare expansions (dental and hearing aids), paid child leave and expanded child tax credit are all out then it's kind of hard to see what the point of the bill is. I think the Medicaid expansion for the working poor in red states that didn't take the free ACA money is out too.

Watch it fail and the House gives Manchin and Sinema the votes for the infrastructure bill anyhow.
