I think she's more of a sports journalist. Politics is just the sport she covers

Only when it's not her fault.

They are only useful when pushing out propaganda. Actual news? Not usually.

Democrats are not very good at messaging and sloganeering. Never have been.

Slick Willy was pretty damn good, though.

They definitely need better PR people.

Thing is. The media is far more interested in playing Inside Baseball. Why would any of the media outlets want to talk about the bill, when they can talk about Dems in Disarray.

Trump doesn't like her:

Haberman came to significant prominence during the Trump campaign and presidency, frequently breaking news about the administration. In 2018, Haberman's reporting on the Trump administration earned the Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting (shared with colleagues at the Times and The Washington Post), the individual Aldo Beckman Memorial Award from the White House Correspondents' Association and the Front Page Award for Journalist of the Year from the Newswomen's Club of New York. Trump himself has repeatedly responded to negative articles in the Times by calling her a "Hillary flunky" and a "third rate reporter".

That's always a positive sign.

She is a publicist and does PR for people. News and facts aren't really her thing.

I mean, I get it. But it's the job of the Democrats to get that message out there. The Republicans are much better at getting their insane bullshiat out to the cult. The Democrats believe in the process and all that jazz.

Republicans have their own propaganda outlets to push their talking points out. Democrats lack that.

She's not wrong. For once. After the 2020 election, they quickly switched over to Democrat-on-Democrat horse racing. I have pretty much stopped watching the news. And as for reading, I go through WaPo a few times a week, but mostly the Guardian to read up on Brexit disasters (they're my methadone treatment while tapering off the U.S. news).

I stopped reading the NYT a couple of years ago; couldn't stand a writer there: Maggie Haberman, who manipulated her access to create sensationalist stories.

We don't know what's in the BBB plan, because Democrats are still stripping shiat out of putting the finishing touches on it.

Being constrained to actually tell something vaguely resembling the truth is a titanic handicap when the GQPers can and will simply flat lie. Constantly. About everything.

To be fair, it's hard to message "We won't be including paid family leave because our donors don't want it."

This requires a media who are interested in amplifying what you want the discourse to be.

The news media as a whole is very interested in talking about whatever the GOP wants to talk about, in the language preferred by the GOP, and with ample guests to present both sides - the pro-GOP side and the anti-Democrat side.

They're very uninterested in talking about anything the Democrats want in the news cycle - they'll flush most things down the memory hole - for example the Eastman memo barely made the above the fold for a day before it was deemed boring and not newsworthy. Similarly they aren't keen on talking about anything to do with the Build Back Better plan other than reporting on Sinema and Manchin.

Yep. The only truth I have ever seen from the GQP is by accident then the backspin to deny it.

What does she mean ?  We've heard almost nothing which is exactly what will be passed.

2021-10-27 10:50:09 PM
The concept here confuses me. I've known because I've done multiple internet searches to seek out the information. I tried to figure out what was in the $6.5T proposal and the "bipartisan" infrastructure bills. I looked up what was the original framework of the $3.5T proposal. I've tried to keep up with the evolution of what might actually get passed given the vagaries of what M&S would accept as well as what red lines might be drawn by other Senators.

But that was all proactive seeking of information.

How is the rest of this supposed to work? How does "the media" force-feed people information? Are they supposed to craft click-bait stories about "you would be amazed at what's in the reconciliation bill"? The information is out there. How do you force feed it to people?

I could have sworn it was mentioned between yesterday's 15th mention about Alec Baldwin and coverage of the anti-vax/CRT protest.

Isn't a lot of the bagging on Haberman a case of shooting the messenger? She maintained contacts in the worst administration ever, and gave us some insight into its rottenness.

She knew that you could schmooze TFG and he would willingly believe that you were smitten by him. That gave you access, again and again because he was desperate to believe that people loved him. So she kept access and reported again and again and again from inside sources. She would report to the effect that "Team Trump is trying to sell the story that X and Y and Z." She wasn't supporting their story, just telling us what they decided they wanted to sell.

For some reason, the fact that she reported on what they were trying to sell got misconstrued as her being complicit in their selling those stories. I read it differently. I read it as exposing the Administration's plan. It's valid reporting, not some sort of endorsement. In fact, there's implicit ridicule involved.

Is "Why hadn't the press..." the goodest English? It sounds weird to me (but I'll admit I was a 'C' student in English). I would have said "Why didn't the press..." instead but I'm not making my living by arranging words.

Only thing the meme forgets is "no plans to phase out fossil fuels" since coal baron Manchin is stripping that out of the bill too.

The bill is halfassed trash, worse than Obamacare. It's a meager bone for the starving dog that is the abused American people, from the "good owner" that doesn't actively beat the dog.

Many of her stories were like that with the addition of what he was angry about, who he was yelling at about what, and what it was that was depressing or upsetting him. Those are insights into the working of the Whitehouse. They helped expose the chaos and lack of direction, the infighting, the likely shifts in insider power.

That is news. You have to track it but it lets you connect some dots to anticipate what they might try to do next. Sure, in many ways it seem like trite gossip but the read through is that the Administration itself remained controlled by trite and transient motivations, petty infighting.

It was actually helpful.  70% of the coverage (at least) at the time was about Trump's "secret" plotting and planning, and most of it was bs.  If you just listened, and filtered out the bragging, the damn fool would happily tell you what kind of incompetent nonsense he thought he was up to.

They wanted more coverage about how Putin was going to take over the country.   Because that produced a lot of solid reporting.

It's a perfectly reasonable construction and makes perfect sense. At the same time, substituting didn't for hadn't would work with little effective change in meaning. Just because you haven't seen that usage often doesn't make it improper.

Maybe we'll only be involved in "good wars" soon, like war with North Korea. (Well, technically we are still at war with North Korea)

I am shocked. Shocked I say.

Speaking of. What in the holy hell is "Build Back Better" supposed to mean. What a tragic name for a supposedly life-altering bill ...
