It's a Jaguar / Range Rover. One goes out, they all go out. And takes the air con with them. And 80 days to fix because parts are back--ordered and supply-chained. And you get it back and the mirrors have stopped working.

SumoJeb: 19 cup holders would be nice.

Many of those are just the door cubby area subdivided.  Not useful for a drive thru coffee, but good for a spare bottle of water in case of an emergency.  Might as well do something now that paper maps aren't in there anymore.

The only thing I have ever found a door cubby to be good for is storing one of those umbrellas that compacts down to about 10 inches.

I dunno, I always wanted a car with an amazing sound system in it. Not one of those "shove 20 speakers in your ride & watch the trunk, along with the while car vibrate every time it hits a bass note" deals. But a really nice high-end system. Maybe that's one reason I have a fondness for the also rans of the luxury car market, like the Kia K900, The Volkswagen Phaeton, etc. Maybe one day....

They missed the demo by 20 years, I'm guessing. Both my rides have fine systems that are as loud as I need them to be.

Kinda miss those dual 15s rocking the block but not really. I must be getting old.

Anyone interested in some freshly reconed cerewin Vegas?

Our 2012 Edge has a 7 or 9 speaker system. I don't remember if the rear channels have seperated tweeters. It's nice. I had a 2016 Kia Soul for a bit with the premium sound. 7 speakers. No discreet tweeters for the rear, but the front stage was nice.

My 2004 Avalanche has the Bose system. 6 speakers. (The Soul and Edge have front centers). But the tweeters on the Avalanche aren't really discreet. They have a resistor or whatever to filter out the low and mid frequency. I have to pull the A pillar trim panels soon and investigate if I can fit in a proper set of tweeters, and decide if I want discreet in the rear when I finally upgrade things.

But yeah, having a quality system is amazing, lol even in a loud rattling older truck.

Wait, those numbers are wrong for the Edge and Soul. Because both of those also have subwoofers. So the Edge could be 10 speakers and the Soul for sure 8.

Avalanche doesn't have a subwoofer, which I would like to rectify at some point. Don't need to rattle my fillings. But I like some bass.

Boy, you would have fun trying to put a decent sound system into my Mom's Ford Focus....Transit ...cargo van. No back seats, no interior insulation or anything. Just bare metal body from right behind the front passengers to the rear door. I honestly thought about how one could do it and it always ends up at "First, put a damn interior in there, then worry about the speakers."

Meanwhile, my 01 Focus ZX3 is making due with it's original set up including a head unit with gaffer tape on one side of it to keep it working.

I had an 02 FoFo. I never could score a factory MP3 capable head unit. But I did finally find the special Sony trim panel from that upgraded system, so I could put a 1DIN upgrade in and have it look decent.

As for the Transit van? fark that. I'll stick with my rattling torsion suspension for now. Especially knowing that now that the weather is cooling off, I can go in and replace all the upper and lower control arm bushings and the tie rods. Once that's done, I'll contemplate the rear end stuff.

Kind of fun having a project vehicle again.

And scarily, the mirrors still move and defrost and all that - it's the reflectingbit that they no longer do.

I'm sorry, 23 speakers? Why?

I have installed 7 in my Forester. 2 3-way separates and a sub. Rear speakers hose up the front sound stage, so I don't have them. But like, why 23? Just, why?

A 2 way setup with good time correction is fine. That's 5 speakers total. Why 23?

I have a competition sound system in my Forester. It's very fancy and sounds astounding. It has 7 speakers. There's no rear fill, and it can sound just as good if I only had a 2-way separate setup. It also has like 2.1kW of power. Car Audio is a thing I've been doing for years. I cannot fathom why they would need 23 speakers.

We won't stop until each speaker has it's own 1khz band from the audible spectrum.

It's a long long way from the original Range Rover, which was designed so that you could hose the interior out at the end of a day carrying sheep, dogs, bales of hay etc. And the styling was something thrown together just to run test mules but once they got them on the road said "Fark it, it looks great. Keep it."

It's the dumbest, most expensive thing one can do to their car. Basically, it's a competition to see who can install a system that most accurately plays back reference tracks. So, can you get your car stereo to sound like a really nice home theater system? It's competitive because a car is a terrible environment in which to put a stereo.

When I was in high school, it was all done with crossovers, phasing, and speaker placement. Now it's all done with DSP, and speaker placement is essentially irrelevant.

I haven't done comps in a long time, because they're really farking boring. Plus, I already beat (at real time signal analysis) the King, Mark Eldridge, so I quit while I was ahead.

This sounds audiophile-ish.  I thought the competition was going to be more about your subwoofer making people half a mile away shiat themselves.

Oh, there is definitely that. It's a different category, known as SPL. It's basically redneck engineering.
