You really can't comprehend the scale of that until you see it in person.  Here it is in 2019 when we were there for an anniversary trip, before the cars were installed.

Is Dubai one of those places that builds all their shiny looking stuff with slave labor?

Yes, it is the current model for such practices.

I think the engineers and overseers get paid pretty well, so it's probably very well constructed by the slaves.

Actually since 2012 when FIFA threatened to deny them a World Cup tournament unless the country addressed its abysmal labor conditions for unskilled workers, things have improved.  Sure, there are still apartment complexes where people sleep 16 to an apartment in bunk beds, but they are guaranteed days off, maximum work hours per day, and access to free healthcare.  Many of their laborers are from some of the poorest regions in Bangladesh and India, and can make well over 5x the wages in Dubai vs back home, so they send most of their income back to support their families and hopefully dig them out of poverty in their native countries.

How many slaves died building it?  You know.  Those foreign workers they bring in, who live in un-air-conditioned hovels, whose "salaries" are withheld, and who die in droves building whatever ridiculous thing Dubai next wants?

Slaves? Don't be melodramatic. Look down there. Would you really feel any pity if one of those dots stopped moving -- forever? If I offered you twenty thousand pounds for every dot that stopped, would you really, old man, tell me to keep my money, or would you calculate how many dots you could afford to spare? Free of income tax, old man. Free of income tax. The only way you can save money nowadays.

Nobody accused subby of anything. I just provided context behind the contruction.

Much like how I enjoy looking at those "most successful self made people under 30" or whatever lists, and seeing what their parents do.

How many die making my sneakers, harvesting my fruits and veggies, building, painting, cleaning all over this country? I doubt anyone knows, and a lot of the people we elect don't appear to care how many citizens die, much less those people.

Yep. Dubai(or I suppose UAE, technically) is land of "why the hell not?... we have tons of money to blow and it isn't like the labor costs us much"

So I am by no means saying that there aren't problems in this country, but the macro reality is very different. The U.S. has max 15 million undocumented immigrants that are most exposed to this. That's about 5% of the total population.

Migrant workers make up 80% of the population of the UAE and 90% of the workforce. If the conditions for migrant workers are generally as bad as rumored, then that 80% is dealing with conditions that are worse than almost anyone in the U.S.

Having seen where migrant laborers live in Doha, can confirm.

Hmm. You need to get going about 7.9km/s to get to low earth orbit. People can survive about 4 g's, so your centripetal acceleration (A_c) can't exceed that.
A_c = V^2 / R.
R = V^2 / A_c = (7900m/s)^2 / (9.8m/s^2 *4) = 1,592,091m = about a thousand miles.

Ok, we'll come wake you up when we're done.

Dubai is the perfect representation of the outcome of lawless, unregulated capitalism.

The unimaginably rich driving million dollar supercars between distractions, and the slaves who build and run it all who can't escape because the gangsters stole their passports when they arrived.

Clark has been trapped in the United Arab Emirates for over two months while he waits to find out if he will be prosecuted.
He had legally smoked marijuana in his home city of Las Vegas before flying to Dubai in February to explore business opportunities.
Just days after arriving he was rushed to hospital with pancreatitis and a routine urine sample taken by nurses showed traces of marijuana.

The elevators on the CN Tower have an exterior-facing glass wall, and the elevator shaft has a corresponding glass wall.

It's way better than a ferris wheel... and goes much, much higher, and there's something to do when you get to the top other than go right back down.

The only problem is the crush of tourists, but in non-COVID situations I imagine that's a problem with giant ferris wheels, too.

So 5c an hour vs 1c an hour.

How much do they earn relative to a local employee doing the same job with the same skills?

I see they haven't implemented a minimum wage.

On a sidenote, was this ferris wheel the second biggest before a couple weeks ago?

The first Ferris wheel built had a capacity of 2,160 passengers.  Granted, people didn't weight as much back then.

How many guaranteed days off? How many hours per day? What kind of healthcare? Those are all very important elements of your question.

Not to mention, a "guarantee" is worthless if it isn't enforced.
