It's easy to justify overthrowing a government you don't believe in.

2021-10-27 8:53:19 AM
I would guess at least a few of them were advised by an actual attorney to take a plea deal and decided, fark that, I'll defend myself. These people are already woefully unaware of their own ineptitude in many spheres - why not add the law to the list?

2021-10-27 9:17:43 AM
It's probably because, like most right-wingers, they believe they are on the side of righteousness and normality.

These people think they're smarter than presidents.
These people think they're smarter than teachers.

These people think they're smarter than fifth graders even.

Of course they think they're smarter than lawyers.

Yup. All these people will be out of jail in time for the next insurrection. And since the leaders aren't being investigated, let alone held accountable, they'll be in place to coordinate it again, too, with plenty of lessons learned. They almost succeeded last time.

But at least Merrick Garland is on it...oh, right, he's complicit too.

Although in this case a lot of them have the luxury of being able to be that stupid without serious consequences because the DOJ is desperately trying to get them to accept sweetened plea deals rather than throwing the book at them.

Trump is what happens when Charles Manson is born into money.

The difference is Trump was smart enough to lawyer up, unlike Manson who acted as his own attorney at the start and then was assigned representation when he got too unruly.

But facing the death penalty, even his cult followers knew they should have lawyers.

Bottom line: These MAGAts are in a similar cult but are even dumber than Manson's "family".

3.  Every lawyer said "You're guilty.  There's a ton of evidence.   In most countries, you'd be looking at a death sentence.  They don't need you to turn evidence.  All you can do is ask for the court's mercy."

In a recent video Hostetter posted online, he said he's planning to persuade a jury that the real conspiracy is the government's case against him.

"They're going to have to say to themselves, 'Yeah, the election was stolen, the government was overthrown, and Alan was right about combating the lockdowns, masking, the vaccines - case closed,'" said Hostetter, while wearing a hat with the words "COVID IS A SCAM" on it.

They're doing it because they arent facing the goddamn gallows.  If their stupidity was potentially fatal they'd wise up.  Instead we're letting them stand up in front of a federal judge, spout nonsense and get 45 days in jail for attempting to overthrow the government.

Get ready for round 2 folks.  They're gonna show up way more heavily armed next time.

2021-10-27 10:20:10 AM
This is so great! With the way these people are being punished, the more these morons defend themselves the more exponentially damaging their convictions will be! Why, we could see these people end up with their probation doubled, or even their 15 days of community services tripled to 45! Hahahaha....the laughter at these peoples' apparent stupidity compounding their malfeasance almost balances out the rage one feels for the lack of any real punishments being applied to any of them.

It goes with their world view.

They don't understand why everyone can't be their own <<insert profession requiring an advanced education>> because they either don't put any value in the advanced education required (usually because you have to go to one of those "liberal brainwashing" colleges to get one), or they refuse to realize just how specialized and technical American society has become in the last 45 years.

I mentioned in another thread that I was repeatedly attacked - similarly to how I am now for wanting Garland to prosecute Trump and his cronies today - for wanting Pelosi to be more aggressive against Trump starting in 2019.

People like Dognutts up there constantly talk about how we shouldn't do anything, scream at the people who want something done, and then later say we defended the people who need to be prosecuted. All they do is gaslight in support of Trump and his cronies while blaming us for what they support.

Being bipolar does not make a person stupid. These people are narcissists who think they can define their own reality, and they saw themselves in the failed former President due to his personality disorder.

For their purposes, a short jail term is actually a good thing- it will give them street cred in the same way a Mafia guy who says nothing but "I don't remember" or 'I don't know him" at his trial and then serves his time does.

The only way prosecutors break Mafia figures is by telling them they're looking at life if they have amnesia at the trial.  Serving five years is no big deal when you get taken care of when you get out- knowing you'll never be free again is entirely another. That's when made guys turn state's evidence.

Until the DOJ tells them they're looking at 20+ years, nothing is going to happen.

/Don't need to post the picture.

It wasn't the Internet that told morons that they're the real smart people. It was Republican propaganda. Republicans encourage blithering idiots to imagine that they're smarter than normal people, and to insist that their awful ideas be made law in America.
